What's Up?

| I came to Korea about one month ago and am now teaching in Seoul, south of the Han River. I'd like to take some Korean classes, but am not sure where to to. Do any of you have any ideas? I'd like something not too far, not too expensive. I also work during the week, so it would have to be an evening or weekend class. |

What area of Seoul are you in? That's a big stretch of land, along the south bank of the Han. If you are in Gangnam, you can try www.seoul-kla.com .

Thats expensive stuff. Anything cheaper in Kangnam? |

Not off hand, but the cheapest bang for your buck will always be having a language exchange partner. Find someone to teach you Korean for a couple hours a week, have them bring a book that matchs your level, or you bring one that you feel comfortable with, and you do the same for them, with English.

Im at the Seoul Korean Language Academy now. 2 hrs a day M-F... its pretty good. I dont mind paying for it, at least Ill do it. Ive tried to study on my own etc....
Ive thought about a language excrhange, but Ive heard they end up being a 20-80 split........20% korean, 80% english. Lets be honest we dont have nearly the motivateion to push to be taught,,,,,, not like those trying to learn english.
I need someone to prod me into it. If they leave me with an easy out... ill take it....

I had that 80-20 problem when I was poor at Korean and my friend was almost fluent.
Now, I have improved a lot and my new language exchange partner is pretty poor, so it's like 75-25, Korean to English.
The key is to find someone close to your level. But then again, without at least one person of intermediate level, it's difficult to meet, and stuff like that. |

I'm seriously considering Korean language classes now, and I'm looking for feeback from someone currently attending an institution. I'm willing to travel anywhere in Seoul within reason (Live in Songpa-gu, work in Gangdong-gu). My mornings are free, my afternoons and evenings are not. I'm willing to pay, but I don't want to spend a fortune.
Every place I have looked at so far want you to attend only on Saturdays, or five days a week (and charge 300G+!). Is there a happy medium somewhere? (I.e. study 2 or 3 days a week, no more than a 150G!). |

There are free Korean classes every Saturday afternoon at 4 pm at the Korean Study Room. Information is in the Korean Classes section on the Seoul Times www.theseoultimes.com website. |

| Sook-Myong Womens university classes they are free. Every Saturday 4:30-6:30. If you do a search on daves you will be able to find a link to their site. It has a all the information you need on levels and directions. |

one of my teachers there was pretty hot (and also hungover a few times). Was an added incentive to go. That was two years ago, so no idea if she is still there.
Still, pretty good deal given the price and all. |
