The total number of employees taking the leave reached 5,072 in the January-July period of last year. It increased by 20.6 percent in the same period of this year with 6,115, the report said. The amount of childcare leave allowances also jumped 56.2 percent from 10.2 billion won to 15.9 billion won.

Employees with a child under one year of age are entitled to take childcare leave. They can take a year off at the longest until the baby turns one year old while receiving an allowance of 400,000 won per month during the leave.
