This is a warning about Stompers, in Hongdae.
I was there last night. I have been to bad clubs, but this one takes the cake.
The first sign of disaster was the sheer amount of American GI's.
Within 5 minutes of entering the bar, I already got threatened 2 times. Once was by some jarhead who claimed I pushed him, but actually it was my g/f and she said sorry. The other one, he said something as I was waiting outside the bathroom.
15 minutes later there was a fight. I didn't see who caused it, but I saw a GI (no surprise) being escorted out with a bleeding nose. The arguing continued on the street.
What a great place!! Now I know why a lot of clubs in Hongdae area have banned GI's. |

Well, I was in a different club before I went to Stompers. There were a few GI's. but they just wanted to dance and be mellow. Stompers was about 25% GI's and they were not mellow at all. |

I am not normally a rumor spreader-type; however . . .
Korean military friends of mine (KATUSAs) said that the owner of Stompers Itaewon bought/opened Stompers Hongdae, and are making HUGE under the table payments to the police/government to basically turn a blind eye towards the place.
I don't like the vibe there, either. But, it does pull a lot of cuties, & the dancing is usually good. Still, there are literally 100 other places better in the area . . .
Regards,
G. |

Don't paint with a such a wide brush my friend....Most of the "sub-human" grunts are decent lawbiding people. I volunteer at an orphange teaching English.....and those sub human grunts are the ones who come repair the playground....bought and installed "SAFE" play ground equipment and this year their project was to build a soft room for pre-schoolers....
Yep they suck....I hope they don't show up anymore.....
Ya know Butterfly those people who are jerks here are jerks where ever they go. So before you call people Sub-human with such glee you should think about it a little.
One of my Father's sub-human cousins is buried here....died in the Korean War...sub human grunt that he was....
Thank you for calling the decent men and women who serve sub human grunts.....be looking for you at the orphanage where I work...I am sure you spend loads of time there....oh I forgot you are spending most your time in Hongdae sneering at the subhuman grunts....
Have a nice day...

Who am I referring to? The same people the OP is describing, people from the US army who behave in a repulsive, lewd, violent and subhuman manner, invariably late at night in Itaewon (to be expected but not for much longer we hope) and in Hongdae (sadly) did I say all US army members? Well, did I? No, just the subhuman ones.
The OP's post is not a surprise to any of us now is it? We all know this element exists its a shame the army can't control them.

Why is it that you are assuming that the foreigners creating a ruckas are American GIs? I've seen people I know who are foreign teachers get into a bust-up before, and I rarely go out to the bars. Toss in alcohol, and anything can happen. |

I wish there was someone who could control the non-army element that tends to act like jerks...(not you btw so don't get your undies in a wad)
Just saying there are jerks in every single walk of life...there are G.I. jerks....English Teacher jerks.....Priest jerks....and just your everyday annoying jerks.
What what offensive is the fact you said sub-human grunts....not all military are like what you see hanging out the local bar.
I just think you shouldn't charectarize (sp?) the people serving in the military as sub human..
As for me the only time I ever got treated badly in a bar was by some drunk english teacher from wales........called me every name in the book and some new ones. Maybe it is a guy thing....dunno?
Anyway have a good day and I shall retire the pulpit for now.....

Can you? I know G.I.s who could pass very easily as ESL teachers, and have a co-worker who looks like a good ole boy from Tennessee.
It's not as though they all have an extra limb or something. |

Korean police do that.

Sure. But you do know what the OP is talking about don't you?

I stand by my description of the people the OP encountered.

I didn't. I characterized an element, who seem to appear in Hongdae and Itaewon a lot. I've seen some absolutely disgusting behavior there, by young GI's particularly.

Maybe. Sorry about the English teacher from Wales (is that an oxymoron).

Likewise.
In addition ~ I did feel a pang of resent when you mention the relative you lost on this penninsular in the brutal war here since you implied that I called him a subhuman grunt. Like you I have the deepest respect for the memory of the young men who gave their lives defending this land. I feel that memory deserves a little more respect from the aforementioned, and they should carry themselves with notably more decorum in respect for their fallen predecessors. I think you probably agree. |
