|
|
A friend of mine is interested in teaching in Korea with me. Problem is, he will not have a B.A. degree, hence will not be eligible for an E2 visa.
Apparently it's legal to teach at least part-time with a student visa. I was wondering if anyone could direct me to any sources of information about this (i.e. what, if any specifc field of study, would qualify one for a student visa, how employment would work, etc), or could offer some info or advice of their own?
Thanks in advance. |

I came here as an exchange student for my final semester of grad school.
I tried to find an answer to that same question without much luck. From what I know, you are permitted to work with a student visa only after having completed one semester of full time study. Also you have to get official permission through the immigration office.
Other than that, my guess is you'll be expected to document it somehow and pay taxes on any tutoring you (or your friend I guess) do, but I don't really know for sure because I never followed through on it and am leaving for home in a few weeks to look for work in my field.
Also, the student visa seems to be tracked fairly closely. As soon as your study period ends, you have to leave before the school reports that you're done, or you'll get deported.
I didn't know this, and thought I could stick around taking Korean classes (a different visa) and sightseeing for a while (my ARC card and passport both say have a full year), but to my surprise I was wrong and nearly got deported when I went to immigration to doule-check my status.
All in all.... I really don't know a whole lot about your question, but maybe my experience helps a little. Best thing to do would go personally ask the immigration office, even though it's kind of a pain. |

You may teach on a student visa IF
You are studying in a degree program in Korea, language programs don't count.
You have already been here on a student visa for 6 months.
You already have a Bachelors degree.
I think your friend is SOL. |
