Just thought I'd let everyone know about experiances at this school. It was good at first then everything went crazy.

I had to do overtime everyday. I was supposed to teach 25 hours a week but they just gave me a schedule with 33 hours on it after I'd been a teacher for 6 weeks.

The boss watches you on camera all the time. She sits at her desk and can watch you all day if she wants.

You have to feed the kindergarten kids lunches and not get paid for it.

They don't train you at all for kindergarten. You just work it out.

Other than that it was OK at first. I had a good group of co-workers. But the stress just got too much. I was going to have to do six weeks of constant overtime. I was going to have a nervous breakdown at the end and I still couldn't get my schedule reduced.

Yup. That sounds like a wonderland. It is only wonderful for the boss but for everyone else it's a hell-land. If you wait a little while you will see some idiot post about how great their wonderland is after having worked there a WHOLE month.
I feel for you man...if you can't do it then try to quit legally or get fired. If you quit you must get the LOR to stay in Korea.

Don't worry about me, I have already done the midnight run. I just had much better options in my home country. Yeah maybe I should have just tried to get fired. I could have just sat their and let the kids do whatever while the boss watches on camera. But I just stopped caring and left. There are lots of countries to teach english in and I have a British passport whichs means I can go anywhere in Europe.

Wow, you really like stirring up the crap don't you? I've said this a thousand times, and I'll say it another thousand.....

NOT ALL WONDERLANDS ARE BAD!!!! IT'S A CHAIN AND LIKE ANY OTHER CHAIN YOU HAVE GOOD LOCATIONS AND BAD LOCATIONS!!!!

I worked at Jeju Wonderland for almost 2 years and loved every minute of it (except those when I was sick or hurt). I have since moved to another Wonderland and I enjoy this one too. I'll not say it's as good as Jeju, but I wasn't expecting it to be.

So, I've been with Wonderland for over 2 years not all told, and I've not had any serious complaints. All of the little things I could live without, you'd find anywhere with any job in any city.

I'm sorry to hear that the OP had a bad experience, but that whole forced OT is wrong. If you don't want to do it, just say no. They can't force you to work it, and can't punish you if you don't. The only way you will have "forced" overtime is if you let yourself have it.

As for the cameras, yeah, that sucks. I've got them now and I'm not crazy about it. But I'll survive.

Let me guess...you are a "head" teacher for Wonderland? You probably even find new teachers for them on this board, which is why you could even bother coming here to defend them. They stink like last months garbage. What a joke to say they aren't terrible. Of course they are. They are a factory style English academy franchise with little or no interest in being fair to the teachers.
Of course you will say that individual schools are different but that matters not. The schools are allowed to commit any illegal activities they want and the franchise cares nothing about it and even encourages it. You are just the token white "boy" they cart out to impress the new stupid western teachers that the school isn't the cess pool it really is.

Go back to the teachers room and pretend to be important.

For one, I am not a head teacher. I'm a low grunt teacher, but I still like it. Yes, I did find a couple of teachers for my old school because it saved some money for my boss and I got to pick people I thought would be good. Where's the problem with that?

What's wrong with coming on here and defending a good school? To make blanket statements like "All Wonderlands are bad" is just stupid, immature, and libelous. Saying that the head office, which I have no love for myself, allows the schools to commit illegal acts without any problems is possibly causing problems for you.

Yes, there are some things bad about Wonderland, but there are bad things about any and every school in Korea. About being the token "white 'boy'" as you call it, that's pretty much every hagwon I've ever heard about. Oh yeah, and public school, too!

Now, you also claim that they don't care about the foreign teachers. I've seen several examples of where they do care about us. Not to the extent that you may like, nor to the extent that I would like, but they do care a bit. They treat us well enough that it's not terrible, but yes, they could do a better job.

But after writing all of this, I've decided that you really don't care about the facts or the truth. You just like spreading stupid junior high-style rumors as fact and putting down anyone who disagrees. I'm done even trying to explain things to you. You're blinded by your own stupidity.

Despite all the negativity surrounding Wonderland and its various schools, I also know of someone who was quite happy working at a Wonderland school.
