Hi. I just heard from someone that you can no longer legally extend a contract for only 6 months. You see, I signed a contract for one full year. But I'd like to extend 6 months. And instead of ending it on January 6, 2006, I wanna stay till July 6. My director seems very happy about this, and didn't mention anything illegal about it. She said it was just a simple process.

I heard from my friend, however, that you will be 'blacklisted' or something, since your VISA is actually for one full year. He also said this is a new thing that immigration is doing. Can anyone confirm this? I really wanna stay at my school, so I can go back to Canada during the summer rather than the winter.

Anyone know if I can extend 6 months or what?? It seems kinda stupid if I can't! Just kinda makes no sense...

I extended my last E2 for an extra 3 months, I don't see that you would have any problems with extending it for 6 months. I just went to immigration with my school's director, filled in some paper work and they wrote something illegible on the back of my ARC and it was done.

I've never had a problem extending for a few months, but I've not tried to do it recently (last time 8 months ago, or so).

However, isn't another option to extend for a full year, as far as immigration is concerned, but have a seperate agreement with your school, on paper, that because the intention is actually only 6 months, a release letter will be given after your agreed-upon 6 months? I suppose there are some risks on that side if you dont' trust your employer, but I suppose you wouldn't be extening if you didn't trust your employer in the first place?
