I'm hoping to go to Chejudo for Chusok. I know that all the flights are booked and I would have to try to fly standby.

If I choose to go by ferry from Pusan, does anyone know if I would have to make a reservation in advance?

Thanks!

chusok is the second busiest travel holiday. my gf and i went to Cheju last year during chusok... we made reservations 3 weeks in advance (but not on a ferry) and we had only slight difficulty to get the flight we wanted.

hotels were another story, though. that was more difficult.

BTW, don't be expecting beach weather during that time.

If possible, take the ferry from Mokpo, it's shorter than the trip from Busan. And you will need to reserve tickets.

Or you can take a ferry from a little town called Wondo. A couple of friends and I did that two years ago during Chuseok. It wasn't terrible.

I had zero troubles getting hotels and minbaks on Cheju during Chuseok. Probably because I wasn't staying anyplace particularly fancy.

If you are planning to take the ferry to Cheju, don't forget to reserve train tickets to the ferry port. Those are also selling out as I type this.

Good luck!

Got my plane tickets and hotel at the last minute from a travel agent. Ask around, they are probably holding back a few And if you are from a northern Atlantic coastal area, it is well within beach weather at Chusok. Don't listen to the Koreans.

I will be bussing to the ferry terminal if I go through Pusan, so that is not a problem, and I don't care about hotels being booked because I know there will always be a decent yeogwan or minbak available.

Now I just have to find out how to reserve tix for the ferry. It's not as easy to "ask around" for plane tix in Masan as it might be in larger cities! Smile

Oh, and don't forget to bring motion sickness medecine (ֹ̾), those seas can be pretty rough. The ship I took from Mokpo became a floating vomitorium

I went to Jeju over Chuseok a couple years ago and thought it was great. I had no trouble finding Minbaks and Yeogwans to stay at, although some were closed to spend time with their families.

It actually was warm enough to go swimming too.
