I just got done reading the posts under (drug test enforcement) job-related discussions and noticed an all out war on there between the Canadian posters and others (who knows where they are from). I don't get it....Why does it matter whether you are from Canada, US, New Znd., Austr., etc.? And what's up with the nationality bashing (oh..must be canadian...etc.)?
I don't get it. I guess it's the, "I am hiding behind my stupid screenname where no one knows who I am" syndrome. Maybe someone can explain it to me.
I figure if your cool, then why does it matter where you are from? Man...people have wayyyy too much time on their hands.
Most of the teachers that I know in my area are Canadian. They are all pretty cool. Mind you they have their differences, BUT DOESN'T EVERYONE?!?!?!

Here's the story
Once upon a time there was this fellow (let's call him D) who couldn't get a job in his homeland. So he went to Korea. But when he got there he found all the good jobs were taken by Canadians. So he made up a number of "socks" to accuse Canadians of smoking dope and various other illegalities. He seemed to be particularly angry at the fact Canadians get 6 month tourist visas, while Americans get only three. (One wonders why he cares, since he claims he is here on a one year visa. Could it be he is doing the three month run to Japan, and wants what the Canadians have?)
But he quickly lost all credibility and now is mainly seen as a figure to poke fun at on these boards. |

The first time I ever met a Canadian there was this person sitting in front of me with a huge maple leaf on his back pack. I just thought it was cool that he was proud of where he came from..
I didnt speak to him,.. so I still havent quiet met a canadian yet.
a few days later I met an American now I have met some americans before but only briefly.. so I went to this bar in pusan now Im 22 years old
and I see all these canadians well I assume they are canadians becuase its like 95% of them have patches of maple leafs on there tshirts, or back packs or somewhere. one guy even had a tatoo!
MAN!! I asked the american guy I was with.. whats with these canadian people? he replied dont mind them! they are just living in our shadow!
hahahaaha I looked at him and said to myself emmmm sounds like what we have with australia and new zealand.. but in this case I am in the shadow if im from new zealand.. EMMMM
but yeah I never judge anyone on where are they are from..
either you are cool or you're an idiot! unfortunately korea seems to bring out more idiots! than cool people! but when you make a cool friend keep them! becuase they dont come around so often! there are more bassheads than anything else.. and all this country bashing is just pointless childish BS. but remember one thing.. canadians out number the rest of us.. and with their inferiority complex towards Americans(AS I AM TOLD FROM AMERICANS) I dont really know becuase I have never been to usa or canada. but thats what every american says to me..
amd every canadian I have met these days.. most of them hate USA
I ask them why? they say becuase most americans dont even know what the capital city of canada is! most americans dont have a clue about canada they dont care!!.
is that they dont like to have their country abused in anyway at all..
and kiwi, well we are laid back bunch patriotic on the field thats about it
Aussies pretty much same for them too.. down under we dont get into the my country betters than your country fights, we just say get your 15 on the field and lets see..
seems canada and USA have some major issues.. one american told me they are still bitter about the war of 1812.. I just looked at him and said
war of 1812???
he said.. forget it..
ohhh ok
whatever that means..

and with their inferiority complex towards Americans(AS I AM TOLD FROM AMERICANS)
Canadians do have some what of an inferiority complex. Or is just bitterness cause canada comes out of the losing side of any dispute or trade agreement we have. One way canadians try to bolster their self condifence is to trash the States. Pretty Pathetic really. Canadians really do like to think they are better than americans. Canadians used to be able to claim that they had the best country in the world to live in, according to the UN. Canada has slipped lately. That doesn't stop Canadians from saying they are better.
Why would Canada be bitter of the war of 1812. It was between the States and GB. Canada wasn't a country until 1867. The US and GB ended the war with a tie. Nobody won. Canadians love to claim that Canada won the war but that isn't true. Canada wasn't even a country at the time it was a colony. |

So when Americans trash Canada, its because they have somewhat of an inferiority complex?
The reason Canada comes out on the losing side of so many trade agreements, is that the U.S refuses to completely honor its side once it becomes inconvenient. That is why Canada has referred a number of them to the WTO tribunal. |

Really? Maybe I've been reading the wrong threads. It seems anytime there's something about Canada an American comes out (often of the D variety) bashing Canada. I remember the Canada Day threads were quickly hijacked by unruly Americans. Meanwhile the American Day thread (as far as I know) was left alone.
I have found myself on more than one occasion defending Americans while here in Korea. Since I started reading this board more frequently I've started to question my support.
Where do people go to see all of these maple leaf patches and tattoos (I hope you were exaggerating). I think if someone hangs around Itaewon too much you might see that, but i don't know. I can't remember the last time I saw the maple leaf sewn on someone's anything.

usually it seems that congress refuses to aide by the treaties.gotta love those checks and balances. when an american bashes canada its cause he's arrogant and an idiot. Canadians who mindlessly bash the states are idiots too.
I think the maple leafs are kind of stupid. HEY LOOK AT ME I"M CANADIAN!. Well whoopty do. Talk about drawing attention to yourself. If that isn't an inferioty complex, then I don't know what is. |

I think it's just whichever group is dominant is going to be the one that is going to be trashed most. There probably are more Canadians here. I think the only reason they hire us really is that they think we're basically Americans without the politics. I would say most of the world is at least somewhat anti-American, especially lately. The US just yields too much power in the world.
I would probably have to admit that Canadian anti-Americanism does stem from some kind of inferiority complex. I think that's mostly because of the media. Canadian television and movies are just not good. Anyone with talent will go to the US to make money. So basically we just get TV and movies telling us how great the US is. Canadian pop culture isn't that strong. It really is true that Canadians are overinformed about the US and that Americans are just really uninformed about Canada. I mean, Canada is supposed to be one of the America's strongest allies and America, our "best friend" doesn't know anything about us.
I lived in the US for 3 years going to school and I would get the dumbest questions. What does Canadian (the language) sound like? Do you all really live in igloos? Canada? Where's that? Or when I would tell that I wasn't American they would just be dumbfounded or tell me that I spoke English very well.
Canadian nationalism is a funny thing too. It really only seems to exist outside our borders. Nobody runs around talking about how great Canada is at home. I remember someone said that in Canada you could probably run the Canadian flag through someone's colon and no one would be offended. The only reason I'd ever have the maple leaf anywhere was so people wouldn't mistake me for an American and I assume it's the same thing for a lot of us. |

Have you ever lived in Australia as a Kiwi, you do get a few hits from them verbally about not being as good as them, etc. etc. etc. Met a few kiwi's who grew up in Australia, I would bowl up to them, after having them pointed out as kiwi's, "G'day Mate, I hear you're from NZ?" I used to think I was looking at Ostriches (?) they would pull thier head in and start looking for the nearest foxhole. They would say quietly, no I am Australian and I was born in NZ. I would apologise and say I heard differently, that I was a Kiwi, just visiting.
The crap I used to get my first year, I would walk around with a chip on my shoulder daring people to knock it off, by the third year I had a "what the Funk" attitude, I am kiwi and proud of it, who cares what you think. Also I would learn all the Aussie jokes about Kiwi's, use them on myself and then start on the Aussie jokes. Most of the jokes are the same, just switch names of countries. Most kiwi's (not australian kiwis) end up at that point. If you live there. |
