well, my friend gonna come over, but since its his first time he was wondering this. the recruiter said they need him to send the proper documents and such, and they will be sending a ticket to him as well. but they said he has to send the ORIGINAL uni.diploma and he would get it back when he got here. he said the immigration wants to see the original stuff these days coz thay are cracking down. but i thought you aren't supposed to give ANYONE the real one, just a copy??
has anyone else sent their real diploma thru a courier?? |

| It's common these days for schools to ask for original diplomas. You can order as many as you like from your university and have one FedExed over. It takes about 5 days. If your friend is thinking of staying longer than one year, it may be a good idea to bring extra diplomas in case he/she wants to change schools later. |

I think Yata Boy was referring to transcripts. I wouldn't send the original diploma. Maybe they're honest, maybe they're not. I would get the original photocopied and certified/notarized through a local Korean consulate or embassy. Scan the certified copy and then E-mail that. Don't send the original.
Yes, I've sent my original though courier. That was to the Korean Consulate in Montreal. I've never given, or sent, it to anywhere/anyone else.
Toronto:

Tel. : (416)920-3809, Fax : (416)924-7305 E-mail : [email protected]

According to both the Toronto and Montreal sites this is required:
Two copies of the certificate, degree : one notarized copy and one photocopy of the same (But, this is doing everything from the Canada side. Who knows what the hell immi here is requiring nowadays. If what the recruiter suggests is faster and can be trusted, I guess your friend can go ahead and do it that way.
It should only take your friend 2-3 days to get the notarized copy done. Get him to call the embassy/consulate nearest him. I think it's safer that way. |

Yeah, I DID send my original diploma to my school here. I tried everthing I could to get out of it, since I had to send it off 5 days after I got it! I worked 4 years for that thing, then I only get to bask in its paper glory for 5 days! sorry, that's not the point.
I learned from my university that the only possible way to get another diploma was to have an affidavit signed that my first one was lost or destroyed. I didn't have time to have it notarized either (my work visa was rushed).
so my advice, try to get it notarized by a korean consulate (although if there isn't one near you, you'd still have to send it), or take your chances mailing the original. the worst that can happen is that you don't get it back, and THEN you have to get a new one.
I had mine back before I left the country =] |
