Hey Folks, I plan on heading over to Korea in early 2006 and am curious about the gambling laws. I play online poker here in Canada, but I am unsure whether I wil be able to keep this addiction going while in SOko. Also as far as casino's go...are there any?

Any info on this matter would help, though I don't think I wil base my decison to go or not on this question!

Thanks

Yeah, there are casinos everywhere in Korea. For foreigners
only. NO Koreans allowed. They are dull, depressing places
with drunk Japs spending huge piles of coin.

Best thing to do is get some friends around and play with them.
We had a game on Saturday. We played at the "Three Alley"
pub in Itaewon.

I used to know one of those old gents at Sheraton Walkerhill. Every summer, always blackjack, always the same two tables, same scotch, same betting style. A real fixture. Once saw him playing at the 10,000 won minimum table (instead of his usual seat at the 100,000 won) and I asked if Lady Luck had been cruel. Ha!! He'd won 50 million won that weekend and just felt like changing gears.

The biggest regulars aren't the Japanese. They're the reptilian-skinned, Gucci-bag-clutching, long thin cigarette-chainsmoking, 50~60 yr old (jae-mi and jae-kanada) gyopo ajummas, like "Teri Ajumma" and... "Gloria (?) Ajumma". All the dealers know them. Go there three times a year or three times a week, and I guarantee you'll see them. They're institutions. What a life. Sad

I checked out the sheraton walker-hill on the Saturday night and yeah, most depressing casino Ive ever been in. No wooping allowed if you win and everythings so serious. I was at Carribbean stud (the 3 card table) and some dude got a royal flush and started wooping, like you would. And what did the cunt casino do but cut the whole table off and give this guy a stern talking to!!!! wtf?!?!?!!

As for playing online, I've heard of people getting busted for playing online- mostly koreans though-I would reccommend setting up all your accounts before you come.
There are regular games in Seoul-anywhere from friendly games to relatively high stakes-win or lose a couple million in a night-there should be some mid-stakes games in early September...
