Yesterday, all the teachers at my school got computers, desks and office chairs for our apartments (supplied by the school district). It's great to be able to go online without having to go to the staff room.

I'm guessing that most private hogwans would not do this...

This is a reasonable assumption.

Are public school teachers unionized like they are in the US? That would explain it.

I'm not really a public school teacher. I work at a new 'English Immersion Camp' located at a high school and am paid by the school district. I know I'm not unionised.

I have the same students all day, but a different class (elementary or middleschool) every week. There are six, 45-minute classes each day and students attend the 'Camp' 9:00 - 4:00 (Mon. - Fri.).

I went to my new school yesterday and the boss asked me if I wanted a desktop or laptop! I'm in a public school and I've decided to get a laptop so that I don't have to be in one set place(i.e. the staffroom).

Yeah but laptops are no good for gaming. You can't play Nethack without a numeric keypad.

My boss gave me a computer once. An old Pentium 2 64 MB RAM and 4GB Harddrive. Cracked me up, especially when he came back for it a month later cause his daughter needed to type a paper. This is the same guy that spent all day everyday photocopying Let's Go books for the sudents instead of buying them (and still charging the kids for them, I might add).
