yes! back in the hermit kingdom.................with a charged battery, and I am envious of the students I teach, because I have been energised and am like the duracell bunny! I think the only way to get recharged is to see the art of Europe. America wont do it, Thailand will give me a high, but it wont do it, only Italy, England, Ireland, and Germany will give me the chemicals that make reason like a crystal clear fountain, and Korea can make a soul thirsty, thirsty enough, and the only remedy is beer or girls, but Europe can satisfy the dryest desert in no time.

How was Germany?

Just moved here after living in Munich for about 3 years. Gotta say, I'm gonna miss Munich a LOT...everything, but beer is high up there on the list.

It seems to be a bit difficult to get a job teaching in Europe unless you have an EU passport or excellent qualifications, like a Masters degree or whatever. I was hired at a school in Poland earlier this year, but they couldn't get me a work visa, because I'm American. I would have taken lower pay in a heartbeat. But the European job market is becoming more and more closed to Americans every day.

Do you know why that is? I would like to move to Europe in a few years. Is that going to be impossible for me?

Yes, I already miss Germany so much. Just waking up and going to the bakery and getting these danish rolls fresh and full of cherries and apples. Beer is so cheap, and GREAT; and the girls are really pretty, tall, blonde and beautiful! I have never been to Munich, maybe next summer!

Well Great toad, I will give you an update: Things are still going good with my Japanese girlfriend, I have never been happier! I think I might get married next year, but not sure yet. If I get married I will have to settle down, no more wild trips to thailand, no more benders, and no more eating dinner with rich stuck up girls Laughing

@mercury: Munich rocks. If you ever do go, I can direct you to places where you can hook up with the ex-pat crowd...though whether that's your idea of a good time in Germany or not, I dunno. They are a fun-lovin', fairly warm crowd, though, and there's a fair few of them. Ja, I'm gonna miss those 60 cent bottles of beer (there's one in the avatar...) And the girls...hey, a married man can still look, and there's something incredibly sexy about a girl that's taller than you are (the legs, perhaps? Dunno...)

@qinella: I 'spect it has much to do with the EU and labor laws around that particular economic bloc. I know it was very hard to land legal work of any kind in Germany during my whole 3 year stay, and it has to do with preference: first Germans, then EU, then the rest of the world--and at least in Germany, if you're not hiring a German, you have to explain to the central employment authority--Arbeitsamt--why you can't fill the position with a German. You've a leg up as a native speaker--in fact, it's often the only kind of work a British/Nzer/Aussie/Ami can land--bigger leg up if you can speak German as well. It was the only kind of work possible in my case. Also, the employment is likely to be on a casual or free-lance basis, and work visas are a lot harder to land if you're not under full-time contract. That's just Germany, though.

If you're serious, pop for the CELTA cert--that's the one most European countries seem to want, and it'll improve your chances considerably.
