So my Korean neighbor threw out his bed and base unit. It was sitting in the garbage area. Stuff like that sits there until either the garbage guys come, or some recycle place nabs it.

I have a mattress, but no base unit, and it was decent, so I snagged it. Now the neighbor has complained to the building owner, and wants me to pay him for it.

Me via translation: But he threw it in the garbage. He didnt want it. So I took it. If he wants it, why put it there?

Guy via translation: Its his. He wants you to pay him for it.

Me: Thats stupid. Why did he throw it away?

Guy: Pay me for it, or I will call the police.

Me: Here. Keep it. I dont want it.

Building manager gives me a long, cold look as if Ive stolen something, and am an evil person.

Bed frame goes back in the garbage.

it could be that they've already paid for it to be removed or paid for it to be recycled.

In either case, he could have told me that. I thought about that very thing. If that were the case, they are still carrying away the mattress anyway, and hed be paying for that.

Whether or not he pays for it, the outcome is the same. The materials are gone and out of his site.

yes but if you pay for something and someone is to take it away for free you'd want some money out of it.

Like if you pay for a fridge but find out you have been given one free by a friend. you have two fridges. If someone offers to take the one you bought off them you'd want some money for it.

If he takes it, then eventually he is going to have to pay for its removal anyway. The ajoshi is an idiot. Out of sight, out of mind.

so what if "this is korea"! The guy is being a jerkoff, plain and simple. The security guys down in my apartment complex have taken it upon themselvesw to destroy anything that is put into the recycling area, just so us waegooks and ajummas cant get some free stuff. I say let him call the cops, maybe you'll get a resonable one who'll tell the guy to get a life!

If it was a Korean picking it up, there would be a cigarette and a few laughs, a pat on the back and a hand-shake.

Tell him to Fook off, its just another case of someone in this country being a pain in the butt. Honestly, the day that people here cease to care about what others are doing will be a milestone for humanity.
