I was playing a battleship game with my students. They make sentences with I, we, she etc at the top of the page and swim, run, etc down the side. I noticed that they invariably used the positions of thier own ships to try and find the other teams ships. In both classes, both teams did it without realizing all they had to do was repeat what the other team said and 90% of the time would have got a strike. I hope they learn better by the time they grow up.

The second thing I found amusing is that the girls team decided in the middle of the game that they wanted thier ships in new positions and started erasing them and remaking new ones. I thought that after explaining it, that it would be self obvious you don't move them, but I guess not.

It allows them to use sentence structure and they get into it. I feel it is a good game to play and does let them make sentences.
