Was shopping at the Galleria Dept Store here in Daejeon and was pricing out TVs. My wife started talking to the Samsung salesperson and after a few minutes she says that he told here that large screen TVs are not compatible technology-wise in Canada.
This is the first I had heard of this and I asked about Korean TVs for sale in Canada. He said the are for export and have been modified. We went down the aisle a bit and the Sony salesperson told her the same thing...
So, is this true? Has anyone heard this before? Would be a real pisser to move back to Canada with one of those beautiful Plasma TVs and find out iy would not work... |

It's very possible. They do this for many reasons part of it is formats of TV's like NTSC vs. PAL, and some of it is pure economics. For instance let's take DVD players. If you go to a typical store in say Germany the DVD players will be made to work with PAL TV's at Euro volts (220?) and have a Euro plugin, and be set for Euro region coding. It wouldn't be compatible at all if you took it back to the US even if you bought a power converter. |

If they made everything globally compatible it would shrink down the consumer market considerablly. |
