So, you have an E-2 Visa. You teach at a Hogwan. You're registered with the provincial gov't and the local education dept. office.
1 All classes you teach on the premises of your hogwan at its registered address on their behalf - are they always LEGAL?
(If your hogwan or school doesn't follow every rule how could you know? and do the hogwans even know? )
2. What if you take your class out to a park across the street?
or a park a few kilometers away?
or to a restaurant?
or a special cooking class in someone's apt?
or on a field trip?
what if you go on a field trip every day?
to the same location?
Do you have to add a field trip location to your visa to make the class legal? If the students are paying the hogwan and the hogwan is paying the teacher, when does the class become ILLEGAL? Is it when you step outside the door?
3. When you teach for ANOTHER EMPLOYER at another location, with permission from your first employer and letters from both and register the location on your visa with immigration it's LEGAL?
4. So, what if you teach a class for YOUR HOGWAN but in another location? Not an apt. This would still appear to be illegal. It's NOT another hogwan. It's NOT another employer. It's NOT your own private class. From the expert postings I've seen, these students are SOL. There seems to be no way to register this location. This class appears to be ILLEGAL ... ???
5. If you teach your own classes anywhere - are they always ILLEGAL?
(I looked on EFL Law. I have read many postings. It looks to me like:
1. You could follow all the rules, teach inside your hogwan and still be illegal just because **it happens. (low probability)
2. This is clear as mud. It appears to be illegal when you go out the door.
3. This looks OK. (except for #1 type trouble)
4. Tell all the professional workers and even the government officials themselves who have contracted for just this type of class but these appear to be illegal.
5. Yes. Always illegal on E-2.)
So will the experts kindly explain this.
Korea is a crapshoot. Good luck to all. |
