|

I'm sure I'll use all wrong terms here, but let's suppose I had a website called- lostseouls.com , and I then wanted to have another domain name such as forexample.com.
I've already got plenty of webspace as part of lostseouls.com and just want to allocate a small amount of that for the new site in a new folder. So when someone enters http://forexample.com they will go to the index.html file in the forexample folder I have set up on the existing ftp account.
How do I do this? |

Check with you host to see if you have more than one domain.
My host gives me 5 domains. Meaning that I'm allowed to have 5 sights, as long as I don't go over the space limit. |

| well I've already registered the new domain with http://ucvhost.com, they are also the people who host my webspace, but the two aspects seem to be pretty separate |

my webhost is http://www.hostpc.com and i have 7 other websites hosted in one single hosting account...
i pay $4.99 a month for 1.6gb/24gb (space/bandwidth)... with unlimited domains... i've been using this host for 3 years now...
it's a bit expensive if you compare it to other plans... but their support is really great!
they have a 2-for-1 sale starting sept. 1st...

You'll have to contact your ISP SJ. They'd have alter their apache server config and set a new virtual host.
It's completely up to them whether they'd want to do this for you or not, but I'd imagine if it's not in your Terms Of Service agreement then your out of luck.

I would check with your host first. If using Cpanel they will have enabled the feature that allows you to do this easily.
If they are not using Cpanel and it is allowed you can redirect a domain to a seperate folder using htaccess. |

well the hosts charged me 5 USD to redirect the new domain name to my existing web space. Not bad I suppose.
Now however I'm in a funny situation where everyone I speak to can see the new site but from this PC I get a 'not found' error- using IE or Mozilla.
I've cleared the cache and still have no luck- what's going on?

Try flushing DNS.
Open a DOS window by pressing win+r and then typing "cmd" in the little box, then type in "ipconfig /flushdns" in the DOS window. |
