Does anyone on this forum know about these recruiters' reputations?

Not me.
But I know a few teachers who were happily placed in the southern regions of Korea by ETIK out of Busan.
Having lived in Korea already, I wouldn't go through a recruiter if I could help it. |

I know park english. They are my recruiter. Taking nice care of me over here in korea too. Everybody I know that went through them is happy with their job. I actually met the head of the company for coffee the other night and I am meeting her at Hard rock tonight!!! She takes good care of her recruits. |

Unless your fat, ugly, or a kiwi, don't use a recruiter.. you can do better for yourself. |

The not using the recruiter thing is phrased nicely.
That's probably correct. A recruiter is going to place you where it is convenient for them, not necessarily where it is best for you. |

That really depends on the recruiter phaedrus.
A good recruiter can help someone get their first job.
A newbie that doesn't know the scene can get a lot of help from a good recruiter (there are some out there).
Got my first job through a recruiter and he was great. Asked the right questions, anwered all my questions and got me ready to leave.
A good recruiter can also match your preferences to a job that fits them.
You just have to carefully select this recruiter as, sadly, there are quite a few bad ones out there. |

Yeah, that sounds better. I like to bash recruiters.
I think Gord argued me to the belief that I should have my own recruiter (in this case it becomes agent).
I suppose it really depends where the loyalties of the recruiter are. Whether with the teachers or the schools. |

The better recruiter will have the follwing "philosophy":
Place good teachers in good schools/jobs.
He or she has to have the interests of the teacher and the schools at heart.
That means developing a network in Korea that checks up on schools and a serious screening method to select only people that have what it takes to teach.
This, as of today, is still a rare thing. |

I'm in the States right now. Austin, Texas to be more specific. In a week I'll be moving up north to stay with family. I feel the need to go through a recruiter because of a few very logical reasons.1. I'm broke.
2. Recruiting agencies offer more security [or the illusion of security] for first time teachers.
3. I'm broke.
4. A lot of people have had positive recruiting agency experiences on this forum [which I realize represents a small portion of the current population of EFL teachers overseas]. Of course an equal amount, if not more, have had very negative experiences with recruiters.
Thank you to all who have contributed to this thread. Thanks VanIslander for the heads up about Etik. I'll check them out. Thanks, too, YellowHair for the personal input about Park English. It's good to know someone on this forum has had a positive experience with them. I'll definitely check them out as well. |

I used ATC recruiting..
They were good for me.. they got me a good school.
at first they tried to give me a crappy school, but I held out.. the big thing is dont take the first one.. make them look harder for a better school. That worked for me either way.. |
