|
|
For those old enough to remember who Deep Throat was (not the movie, the OTHER Deep Throat) and when the media actually did investigations rather than just sit around blathering on TV, a 91 year old man, Mark Felts, has claimed to be Deep Throat. He was the #2 man in the FBI at the time, so it is a plausible claim.
Neither Woodward nor Bernstein are confirming the claim. They have said they will only admit who DT was when he dies. Except for Deep Throat himself, only W & B and Editor Ben Bradlee know. (Is Bradlee still living?) |

The Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford movie on the subject is a classic. Highly recommended. |

I WIN!!!
While you youngins discuss the movie, I'd like to ask the older ones in the crowd:
What is your fondest memory of Watergate?
Mine was the Saturday Night Massacre. It was October '73 and I was over at Suzie's house getting my hair cut. Suddenly the news announcer broke in and said someone had resigned. A few minutes later he came back on again and said someone else had resigned. Then they gave up on playing music altogether to tell us that 3 had resigned and the Special Prosecutor had been fired.
Suzie and I discussed if, in light of the apparant coup, we shouldn't pile some stuff in the car and head for the border.
That was a more fun evening than the afternoon that the wire service in the newspaper office went Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding. Or was it 5 dings? (Each ding means a bigger story.) It turned out that Spiro Agnew had resigned. A nice day, but not quite as exciting as the SNM.
Anyone else old enough to share? |

my watergate memory involves Nixon's resignation. I was wandering a beach in Fla and overheard it on somebody's radio that he was going to resign that nite. I ran over to my aunt and grandparents to tell them, they couldn't believe that I would be standing over somebody laying out on the beach listening to their radio.
Guess when I was that young I had a nose for news |

PBS is reporting that the Washington Post is confirming that Felt is indeed Deep Throat. |

Don't be surprised, but the evening news has talking heads all over this. The most entertaining one so far IMO is the convicted felon G. Gordon Liddy (you remember him: he's the one who held his hand over a candle or some other flame to prove he was a tough guy) who says Felt betrayed his president. Pat Buchanan, that paragon of the Far Right and Holocaust denier, agrees. He listed some of the names who could have been Deep Throat. None of them had any motivation to betray the president who gave them their jobs. Felt did it because he was passed over for the #1 spot. That's his claim, anyway. There are other people whose names I don't recognize saying much the same.
The spin is ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Marilyn will be demonstrating the technique on a special edition of Larry King Live at 11. A blow up model of Milton Berle will serve as the partner. |

She deserves better. Bring out G. Gordon Liddy and let Uncle Miltie rest in peace. Liddy's a man Ollie North would be proud of.

I have it on pretty good account that Nixon's wife was indeed "Deep Throat." |

Y'know, i've gotta share a REALLY WEIRD thing here. How many others were thinking about this this morning ??? The words DEEP THROAT flashed in my head this morning as i was walking to work. I kid you not
After returning home a few hours later i turn on the TV, & there it was. Like immediately. Deep Throat revealed.
