I recently did a role playing game for my smallest 2 classes. They were stuck on an island and had to try and get off. They got to decide 5 things of use to them chose 2 and picked 3 from the ones they'd written and my ones (an umbrella, a beach ball etc. etc.) then they had to survive. I gave no guidance and the stuff they came up with was amazing. (a message in a beach ball for example).

We did a bit of background stuff on robinson crusoe and I let them talk about some things in Korean but they had to give me their answer in English and I chose a random teammate meaning they couldn't have one person do all the work. For the second group where there were two teams on the island competing to get off it took less than 5mins for team 1 to request that they go butcher team 2 and steal their supplies. When i said no they got all indignant and kept saying, Teacher, axe!! (one of their items). Lovely girls.

We had lots of fun. I was wondering what other scenarios might interest middle school girls. I can come up with lots of fun ones (wild west, space, medival (sp) times etc. etc.) but these are more for boys. Ne girly suggestions?

Ta

How'd they plan on getting the message into the beach ball and then re-inflating it?

If I may ask such a question?

I'm doing 'back-to-school' shopping with my high school girls this week and it's turning out to be quite a hit - they have x amount of $ and have to plan a new fall wardrobe using ads from Seventeen's Fall Fashion Guide. Then they can vote on what shoes / tops / accessories / styles they like best. It's also a good way to practice numbers, and introduce them to American school culture. I'm making a lot of photocopies, though, as they really want to keep the handouts!
