|

After living in Korea for a while now i was wondering if anyone knew if there are any restuarants that have foreign food in Gwangju. I have found Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Italian but am stuck on those. Are there any indian or mexican or middle eastern ones about?
many thanks,

There are 2 Outback restaurants (Sangmu and across from the Starbucks downtown). Also, the TGI Friday's.
Also, right where I live (in middle of nowhere Wolgok) there's a ribs place (Oh Ribs) that's quite delicious and they give you a 30% waygookin discount. |

How many foreigners are in the Gwangju area? Does anyone want to guesstimate? |

There are lots of foreigners here, and a large US army population.
I would say at least more than 200 foreigners.....maybe way off....but there are lots. |

A friend who has just left Korea lived in Gwangju.
A couple of months ago she said she went to some Turkish pizza place out in the sticks somewhere, said it was REEAALLLLLY good. |

Hard to believe this stuff is all in Gwangju. I have only been gone a few short years.
Is Gran Piatto still there? With the Egyptian chef passing himself off as Italian? |

I heard about it this summer. It might have been in the Gwangju News. |

The downtown Gran Piatto is still there. There is also one in Cheomnad, and I think one a few long blocks from the bus terminal.
Via Roma, which was torn down about a year ago in the redevelopment of Bong-Song Dong, has reappeared on the second floor of a building on the busy intersection of the new business part of the dong. |

The german brewhouse is called Munchen Meister I believe, and is apparently pretty great.
There is also a fantastic Italian place called Siete Belle near Geumnamno(downtown), on the wedding dress street, it is right beside the Gran Piatto, on the second floor of a building close by. It's much better than Gran Piatto. The chef there is Korean, trained in Italy, and the food there is better than a lot of Italian food I have had back home. It is not fusion food, but great stuff!!! The prices are decent, and it's well worth the trip there. |

Sounds like gran piatto did all right, then.
weatherman, I bet we know each other. I used to live in Bong Sun Dong as well.
I'm hoping to visit KJ next year some time, on my way thru to somewhere else. It's my favourite Korean restaurants I'm really looking forward to, as well as the old haunts, which are probably truly haunted now from the sounds of it. |
