A co-teacher of mine wants to work on her writing skills. She wants to submit her writing to me three times a week. She wants to pay me but I have no idea what to charge. I've heard that editing jobs usually pay by the page, not by the hour. What is the going rate?

At one point, it was W5,000 per page. I don't know if that still holds. It could also depend on how much correction is needed. Some places only charged W1,500 per page if the writing was good. Some pay by time because that reflects quality of writing.

If it's single spaced and a bunch of run-on convoluted garbage that you will have to re-write, I wouldn't do it for less than 10,000/page.

You will have to look at it to be fair though. If it's readable, only needing a few corrections then 5,000.

If it's double spaced and only needing minimal corrections .......then it's up to you. Be careful that you explain these conditions to them though.
If you agree to do a few things cheaply, they will probably show up with a 1,000 page report, written in obscure technical language (which will be practically meaninless to the average person) and then expect you to do it for the same cheap price. (and on top of that, expect it done by tomorrow!) Laughing

I've had it happen.

I had one student who convinced everyone in my morning conversation class that we should be doing writing assignments and that I should correct them in my spare time. So I agreed to having one assignment per week per student. She showed up with a wad of writing papers from her own students (she ran her own hagwan) and expected me to correct them for her ......for free. Evil or Very Mad

About 5,000 won per page is what I charged.

I corrected the ones she brought, but told her never to expect me to do it again.

She acted shocked, like she couldn't understand why I'd be angry.

She dropped the class shortly after that. Rolling Eyes
