In my opinion, the quality (under the category of "Personality/Character") that men look for in a wife is natural submissiveness ... Since that trait has "progressively" become more scarce, marriage has lost much of it's value, and it's evident that many people no longer bother with it ... (Of course, I might be way off base here, but I don't think so...) |

All of the choices. If any one of them is missing, it's not going to happen. Just for the record I am married (5 years next month) |

Honesty.
By nature, women lie constantly.
It'd be nice to find one that can be trusted. |

This is fine if done the right way.
Likewise when people complain that "women suck"... |

One time my husband said he loves me and illustrated the reasons:
1. (yes, this was the order he used) Great sex
2. I have a good heart
3. The way I think
So, I think you miss the point... cause no guy wants a woman for just one reason to MARRY. Just one reason to have a one-night stand, that's okay, but the woman you want to marry you'd better like for more than just her cooking. It's ALL IMPORTANT at that point, right?

I ticked personality/character. It's the best one I think. She could be the sexiest and prettiest girl alive but if she doesn't have a good personality then the rest doesn't count for much, in my opinion. In the short run, she might be great in bed and make you feel like "The Man" when she hangs off your arm around town, but how long will that last?
Education was second for me. My girlfriend is a genius in my opinion. I always tell her that she should write here as she has so much experience teaching (nearly 8 years now) in Korea and she used to write the EBS magazine and now is teaching companies like CarreFour, Diageo etc. She has so much knowledge and experience about everything that it makes me feel proud.
Personally I think that I could never date a woman with less intelligence than me. I would find it boring and what would we talk about?
Also on a side note, if the girl is Korean then probably she is big into makeup and therefore spends a lot of time putting it on. Korean girls are crazy about makeup but I could never be with one who had to take an hour to get ready. It would drive me crazy. Vanity drives me crazy too! |

I know a lot of guys who marry a girl for her cooking!!
Developing on that a good number of guys in Korea seem to marry a girl that can "take care" of them. I knew this guy once who was getting married to this girl who worked for a room salon but cleaned the house for him and cooked his meals, literally did everything for him. They got married and moved to America and I wonder did it last long? Maybe she was a passport chaser? If she was she worked damn hard to get it. Two years of looking after him. I would be embrassed if my girl did that to me. |

I voted character, and submission has no part in that (except when we're powerplaying).
A wife is a partner. She should make you laugh, rock your body, help you think, and touch your soul. Imbalances don't work. Find your equal. |

Exactly. For some of us this is not an abstract theoretical question.
When I look at the choices in the poll I'm not considering some future perfect image that I want but my real live wife.
I couldn't single out one trait over the others, I love the entire package.
If it sounds trite that's just too bad because that's the way it is.
Is her cooking better than her sex?
Her looks are better than her personality or intelligence?
I honestly couldn't say. |

If I were able to love women romantically (I can only love them as friends now) I'd be looking for a woman who can cook.
I figure that by the time she's 40, she'll be going downhill in the looks department, and I'm not much to look at myself, so it's better to search for other talents.
I'd have to think that guys married to a hottie have to be somewhat worried she's going to be hit on constantly, and be tempted to play. Then again, I have a pretty warped perspective on dating, if I were to apply my experiences to the hetero realm. In most gay relationships I've been in, we can separate "just sex" from love. When I've had partners in the past, we could meet another guy and give/receive oral sex that night; not a big deal. But anything past that was considered cheating. I haven't really had a good hetero relationship, save trying to force one in high school, so I'm not one to be giving advice. |

Us "older ones" want the hippie chick-types we grew up with and went to demos and protests with...and who learned how to bang a guy senseless in that wild-abandon, pre-HIV era, when all you needed was the pill. |
