I think this article captures my confusion about the Korean view of the rich. Everybody here wants to get rich, and pushes their kids hard so they can be wealthy. But then they worry so much that the wealthy are bringing Korea down! I don't get it.

He also hits the nail on the head about the 'problem' of land speculation. Let people build apartment buildings with more than 17 stories! Let the developers build different types of apartments so people can get what they want. I'm no free-marketer or Republican economist, but I see the Korean gov't. as way to involved here. Maybe they should get out of the way and let the industry build enough housing, rather than sticking their noses in and lousing things up.

This is definitely the place where the government needs to have few controls over. Seems like it's the aftertaste of past authoritarian overnments.
