Hi.

So we've been in Cheongju for just over a week now, and although we've bumped into some other Canadians by chance, we'd like to meet some other foreign teachers in the area.

Anyone have any suggestions for when/where to go in order to meet some other folks that speak our language?

cheers!

Chung-dae Joong Moon (Chungbuk University middle gate) is the best area to go out. It's near Sa-chang sa-ko-ri, a big crossroads halfway between downtown and the bus terminals area. In my era we used to go to bars called Roadking and O Bar although last time I was down there a place called Woodstock had emerged as a 'rival'.

hey, i'm from cheongju.

been here for the past 6 months or so. there seems to be lots of new foreigners around. there are a couple of bars in chungdae joongmoon that are popular with the foreigners.

for the past few months it's been attic bar and pearl jam as they offer all you can drink deals. friday or saturday are both popular.

where are you living?

steve.

We're in Yongamdong near the park. Mongol Gongwan is what it sounds like. No idea how to write it in Korean.

Do you have any idea if it's possible to find a decent map of the city online? Preferably in English.

Not sure where to find one online, but if you go to the tourist office near the inter city bus terminal they have good maps there. There were tons of foreigners in that area when I lived in CJ, and they all hung out at some bar in the area.

Korean lessons at the Y (downtown near jung ang park) on Saturday mornings are good, and the New Yorker ( the big coffee shop, also downtown) are other places to try.

Ditto that. You can always find a crowd of us sitting outside the convenience store in that area on a friday evening.
