|
|
Hey everyone!
I am moving to Korea in a month or so (still have to find a suitable contract) and I am planning on purchasing a digital camera. Should I wait to buy in Korea? Does anyone have a great camera they're satisfied with and would like to recommend? Any problems uploading images from certain cameras on Korean computers?
Thank for your help! |

i have a canon powershot s-50. i bought it at yongsan for 420,000 about a year and a half ago. they have since put out the s-60, which i'm told is inferior (haven't researched it though).
5.0 megapixels. it's a bit bulky compared to digitals that are coming out nowadays but it's built like a brick sh*thouse. the photos that come out of it look amazing, and there's a lot of little options that make it easy to make your photos look more natural, ie. like a real film camera.
i love it. however, there are some other canons that are really good, like the ixus 500 - called the elph in north america i think. it's tiny, and is on par with my s-50 for quality.
if you're looking for an SLR, i played with this swede's nikon when i was vacationing in vietnam and i was extremely excited about it.
anyways - i generally recommend canon and the few friends of mine who have bought agree that i'm right.
PM me with your email and i'll email you some sample photos.
edit - as far as uploading, if you're using windows xp and are even halfway computer savvy you can muddle your way through the photo upload utility, even with korean script. |

I agree. I've used Canon for years, excellent products. Presently I have an A95.
Where are you coming from? I find that US prices are slightly better than Korean for electronics here, but not so for Canadian prices. That being said, there's not a significant difference. But I do think there's a better selection here of products.

This camera also goes by the name IXY 600 and IXUS 700 depending on which country you buy it in. It's 7 Megapixels and you can get it in Korea with all the goodies for 400,000 won (just bought mine 2 weeks ago) for reviews go to www.dpreview.com |

I don't know much about the Canons, but when I was looking at cameras about a year ago, I finally landed on the Sony Cybershot p150.
For $300 (a day-after Thanksgiving sale) I got a 7megapixel camera, that also takes surprisingly good video. I've been very happy with it so far.
I'm sure the Canons are great cameras too. Actually, I don't remember my specific reasons for chosing Sony over Canon, but I had a Sony before that I liked, and I read tons and tons of reviews from epinions and amazon on all different cameras before making my final choice. That's about all I remember. |

I've been happy with both Canon's I've had but asking what the best digital camera is like asking what the best car is. It depends what you'll use it for |

Nikon Coolpix is the BEST!!! I'm a TERRIBLE photographer, but my pics always turn out great with a Nikon!
I bought a Sony about a year back, and it was AWFUL!! I ended up giving it away! If you like changing settings for every pic, then it's fine...but if you're a "point and shoot" type, Nikon is great! |

What do you buy if you're camera illiterate and have an aversion to studying the accompaning booklet.
At the same time you want cutting edge. Do more megapixels equate to cutting edge?
I was thinking Sony, but now Ajuma has stopped me in my tracks.
What is a good price for the Nikon Coolpix. My purpose is only to take digital pictures. |

One thing you can do if you're camera-illiterate (as I am) is borrow different cameras from friends and see how they work. Can you take decent pictures without too much fuss?
The reason I ended up with the CoolPix is that they had one in my office and I borrowed it a few times. I suprised myself by the quality of the pics I took and the ease of use. Why did I buy the Sony? It was cheaper...stupid on my part! |

Ajuma - is right on.
I've got a Nikon Coolpix 3700 - and it is the best. Small - so easy to take with you - does great shots - even has neat settings for sunsets etc.
And, not particularly pricey. |

I'm reasonably sure that I can point the camera and push the button.
My probable course of action will be to get students to mess with it, then explain to me, while I take written notes.
I have a Samsung laptop. My layman's presumption is that a Samsung camera would be cheaper, or better value, since it's made in Korea and also it would be compatible with my laptop.
I don't like words like "card". |

Compatible with your laptop?
There will be programs sold with the camera that will allow your photos to download. It's not going to matter that your computer and camera are both Samsung. |

I wasn't really serious about the compatibility stuff, must be a standard connection.
I'm feeling quite sold on the nikon ccolpix. Except for the following: only 3.2 pixels. Isn't it the more the merrier?
It seems very cheap. Don't wanna buy another camera too soon.
It doesn't appear to have a cine action. Is that the right parlance?
I mean it can't do rolling action and tape sound. |
