I am likely to move to Pohang, but have only read bad things on this forum about that city. Anyone have anything good to say to get my hopes up??  |

Great view of the deep blue sea, big waves and a rather picturesque coastline of colorful fishing villages all the way northwards from Pohang up the guryongpo peninsula. Nice contrast to the west coast.
Dam freezing cold and windy in winter though. |

| I really like Pohang! Some great bars, cool people, I like my job, its close to Gyeongju (cultural centre of the country), its not too big, but its big enough.... |

Not as cold as Seoul though - I'd say it's very mild compared to Seoul.
I lived in Pohang for a year and recently revisted on a trip back to Korea. I hated living there at the time but what I missed when I moved to Seoul was the close-knit community that seems to go on there. If I ever move back to Korea I'd consider Pohang. Bad news is POSCO and the dirty air. Yucko.
And the food is awesome in Pohang - didn't realise this either until I moved to Seoul. Even Pohang's ordinary food is better than Seoul's best.
I think it's got almost everything you need... and Busan and Daegu aren't far away. Good thing about living there was that it forced me to get out and see a lot of Korea. When I lived in Seoul, I barely left the city. I think a trip once Hannam-shi was my biggest adventure in 6 months.
And hey... it's where I met my husband
So there you go, some positives  |

| I heard that Pohang has a world-renowned engineering university. They're trying to make a point of having all its students fluent in English. Maybe a good teaching opportunity there, no? |

It's not cold everywhere in Korea in winter. Head south a couple of hours from Pohang and you get Geoje island, the southeastern most part of Korea, an hour south of Busan. It doesn't snow here more than once and is gone in a few minutes. And I've worn shorts in early February three years running (for a few days here and there). It's like night and day compared to Daegu. So. if Pohang is like there, then... brrrrr.
I've avoided Pohang because all I ever hear is bad stuff too, especially air pollution and steel manufacturing. I haven't been to Pittsburgh int he US on my travels either and have only passed through Hamilton, Canada... to make two comparisons. |

As was said it's a beautiful coast road along the run of the coast up and down. I've savoured that but as far as Pohang the city goes I've never lived there. Just visited a couple of times. It's a steeltown, a rough and ready working man sort of city. That's the impression I get. And there's a fish market that's famous. If you look on the map it's sort of on a poke of land into the sea there, the city of Pohang. There are settled esler folk with kids who have jobs with perks working for Posco.
Do you like Bruce Springstein Born in the USA sort of places, Korean style? |

| I loved Pohang. Lived there for a year, taught in a little town just north of it, about five miles away. Great people, nice beaches/few crowds, good scenery, excellent food. Great for hiking, biking. In a few minutes you could be in the hills, away from the crowds. Some nice fishing spots and a few cool temples, plus almost everything you could need, and what is not there is only an hour away in Degau. |

You stole my answer! I really hated Pohang probably because my boss was pretty much the biggest bitch I've ever met, and there was nothing to do except drink and go to Daegu. You're going to hate Pohang, dude. But, yeah, it's not Kunsan. |
