Could someone please loan me or sell me this movie? I need it for a class and I've been having trouble finding it. Or better yet. Where might I find it? I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance,
Harpeau

I have it on DVD but you would need a multizone player to use it - I think it's zone 4 or whatever NZ is.

Hey Harpeau,

I saw it recently at the Walmart in/near Anyang. They have a huge selection of movies there.

Thanks for all of your helpful suggestions. Downloaded it, but it wouldn't burn. Evil or Very Mad Well, today I finally found it after 3 weeks of searching Yongsan.

Alright, now I need "Time Bandits". Anyone have that one.

Thanks again.

For some reason I wanted to find that DVD as well for a class. I think I was doing a lesson about Andre the Giant. Yeah I had a helluva time finding it.

Yeah, I've got a copy of Time Bandits, but I bought it in China so it doesn't have Korean subs. Still, I'll be happy to make a copy of it for anyone who needs it.

That would be nice. Does it have English subtitles? The accents are a bit difficult for some Koreans to follow.

Cheers!

I don't know what is cooler/stranger: the fact that Harpeau needs to teach with the aid of 'The Princess Bride' and 'Time Bandits,' or that you taught a lesson about Andre the Giant.

It was one of those middle school speaking classes. The book was horrible. It was one of those Teen Talk series by that old white bald guy who wears grubby "i drive a van and offer candy to children" plaid shirts for his about the author photo. I taught about one chapter before I threw it in the garbage. He had this list of "common english expressions". None were common in the english language and it was clear he just pulled them straight out of his 55 year old bunghole. "When you have a cat, it's best not to have any tuna on your shoes." "A grey cloud is a challenge for a happy day."

I quickly deduced the format: a reading, comprehension questions, discussion questions. I asked my kids what they wanted to learn about for the next week and then dutifully wrote a lesson based on their requests. It ended up being like wrestling, video games, canadian food, music, and Japanese men (the girls all seemed to be right into Japanese men).

Harpeau, what is your movie class like? How do you go about teaching it? Do you pull quotes and clips from movies and explain idioms/slang, or do you let them watch the whole movie, then give them a test?

Thanks.

Well, depending on the movie, I usually show the whole movie and then go over certain parts looking at idioms & vocabulary. I also discuss certain themes.

For "The Princess Bride", I'm looking at certain themes to discuss that touch on American foreign policy spin doctors and the CIA (e.g. Bush and his "weapons of mass destruction" crap).
I never looked at it closely until just recently and if you pay close attention, Rob Reiner (the Director) has some interesting plays of the kingdoms of Guilder & Florin. The King of Florin is manipulative and wants to start a war with Guilder. So it's very Orwellian and has a Neo-conservative spin (a la Leo Strauss) and is rather scarry.

Those are some of the themes that we will examine. Also, the power of the story~ the power of the imagination, true love, etc. Sorry, just woke up, a little groggy.
