|

Hello,
I adopted a dog from another resident in my apartment building who left a couple of weeks ago. I love the dog, but he makes too much noise and my Korean neighbours have threatened to call the police if I don't get rid of him.
My sister in Canada is interested in taking him, but I'm not sure exactly what the procedure would be for sending him home. I will not be going wth him, as I just started my contract about a month ago.
Has anyone ever sent a dog home by itself? If so, what is the process?
If sending him back to Canada is too much hassle and stress on the dog, is there any places that I can bring him here where he will not become someone's lunch? I just want to find him a good home.
Thanks for any help you can provide. |

If your sister can take him, and is willing to work with him so he barks less and intends to keep him for the rest of his life, that sounds like a great plan. You'd have to check with the airline about procedures, and I believe the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (I know, that's really ironic) will require proof that he's had a rabies vaccination long enough ago to have taken effect. I'd also ask the Korea Animal Protection Society for more advice:
www.koreananimals.org
Best of luck, and give the dog a kiss for me. (I just moved out of Seoul and there are no dogs around here who want to talk to me. ) |

I just recently contacted Air Canada about sending my dog over to Canada with my friend and this is what you need to do:
- get a rabies vacination certificate and a health certificate from a vet. The vaccine should be done at least 30 days before departure.
- Buy a kennel for your dog. It should not be a wire cage but a plastic one. If you go to Chungmuro Pet Street you can find one easily. The dog should be able to turn around, stand up etc. You also need to have a water bottle holder on the outside of the kennel so that the airport staff can refill the water without opening the kennel.
- Your pet is considered extra baggage so the price was the same as taking an extra suitcase - 232,000 won.
- You'll have to call Air Canada reservations and give them the weight of your dog and the weight and size of the kennel.
- Since your thinking of sending your dog alone I'm not sure what else is required but their number is 02-3788-0100.
Hope that helps and if you need any more help let me know.
