The folks at opera are now offering their browser for free. No more ads or licensing fees. I've always found opera to be a strong browser and a valid alternative to IE, even more so now. I hope this move re-ignites the browser wars in our favour, us the users.

From their website "Opera has removed the banners, found within our browser, and the licensing fee. Opera's growth, due to tremendous worldwide customer support, has made today's milestone an achievable goal. Premium support is available."

Opera, so long the dark horse of web browsing, in choosing to do away with the very aspects that separated it from the rest, has now instead chosen to be different technically, by providing a superior browsing experience. And features like native BitTorrent download support, session control, voice controlled browsing, mouse gestures and even skip or zooming do exactly that. The move also proves to be a shot in the arm for Opera's numerous dedicated fans, who despite being the early seekers of Opera's innovative features, hesitated to go for the feature-full and ads-free version because of the price tag. In the era of free browsing applications, they too could not quite stomach the idea of forking out $40 for "a better browsing experience".

Sounds like it has great features, time to give it a try.

Been using Opera for a long time, as well. Better than IE and Firefox, I feel.

I like Opera, and it is installed, but my e-mail and all my bookmarks are with Yahoo and Opera does not offer the Yahoo Companion as a toolbar; Firefox does.

Trying it now, so far so good.

Any features I should be trying out? Are there plug ins and options that need to be downloaded? (Obviously I just fired it up and have not yet looked at the tutorials).

I like it. I played with it a bit last night. Window Washer didn't see it but it has it's own cleaner. I haven't run AdAware or Spybot yet. It has a lot of features and I like features. It runs nice. It really has a different feel than Firefox or IE. The real test will be using it for awhile and not finding crap on my machine after. I was getting a lot of crap using IE and none so far with Firefox. Firefox loads faster on my machine.
