I was looking at getting some SF DVD's and they are 'Region 1' (USA and Canada).

How can I play these in Korea. I don't have a DVD player yet. Would an Xbox or Playstation play these Region 1 dvds? And, should I chose to get a proper dvd player, what kind?

Thanks.

To have your Xbox or Playstation work you would have to get a region free disk installed in it. There are several dvd players around though that either have a region free hack or are region free to begin with. The one I can think of off the top of my head is "ethnic." It is a cheap one, I saw at walmart that is region free. It was 80,000won.

If you've got a computer w/ a DVD player, download the VideoLAN player. It will play any region DVDs wiht no need to modify anything.

Someone on here posted that the Silady MPEG-4 DVD Player you can buy at Carrefor for 89,000 won is region-free. They were right. I bought one, and couldn't be happier. The only big complaint is that the tray is ultra flimsy. Otherwise, the picture is very very good (progressive) and the sound is really great, too.

Not sure if the cheaper Silady model is region-free or not, but I be it is.

I have an Ethnic. It needs a lot of cleaning. The DVD players on my PCs work better. It plays Korean and NA DVDs. Ethnic has English labels on the machine and remote. By a lot I mean I often have to run a cleaning disk and clean the DVD tray between movies. Sometimes twice. Even for new discs right out of the box.

I have the same one (Ethnic). I have had it for 1.5yrs. I have never had a problem with it, nor have I cleaned it. You must have gotten the lemon. Cool
