|
|
On Friday September 23rd. I went to the COEX in Samseong Station and I went to the Apple Store at 3pm to get a number. My number was 135.
We were asked to line up by number and I was lucky enough to be near another gyopo and his wife. Shit...I forgot his name, but his wife's name is Jamie (I only remember that because my ex-girlfriend's name was the same.) So we talked the whole time about my ourselves and general complaints about how long the process was taking.
Oh, and there was something that happened that defied logic. So...we were all standing in line according to the numbers on these sticker things that we picked up when an employee came around with a bag and asked us to put the slips into the bag - which made no sense what-so-ever because people who weren't waiting in line could have just jumped the line or said that their number was like 50 or something, but because nobody had numbers you couldn't prove or disprove him.
It just didn't make any sense to take the slips while we were waiting. But I guess it makes sense in "The Land of the Not Quite Right." There was a bit of a revolt about this decision and the man ceased taking the slips and attempted to hand the slips back out to the people he had taken them from. (I think he eventually gave up because he would have had to go through about 130 slips.)
Anyway I got in the line at 5:15 and the line inched closer and closer to the store. The line went down the COEX towards the Burger King and then wrapped back towards the Apple Store. There must have been at least 400 people in line, but possibly more, because I had learned that there were only about 400 nanos in stock. About 2 hours into the ordeal a girl started serving cups of coke, or powerade, or pineapple juice, or another beverage which looked liked cups of radioactive waste under the strange green lights (which are supposed to be leaves) under which I stood.
At 8:15 I finally made it to the front and I was able to buy my 4GB Black Nano. It came in a time little bag and I was so happy. IT REALLY IS SOOOO SMALL. Good luck getting one.

Good luck getting one?
I'll tell you an even funnier prophecy:
I will walk right in there, buy one, and walk right out again within a few days.
Actually, I won't buy one.
You might remember I posted that my friend's Mini I-pod was skipping? She went in the Apple store. You said she'd get a replacement. She didn't. Here is why:
The store told her that it was skipping because Apple's newer mini models have a little metal sensor near the top of the headphone jack. Apples reason for this is because they say so many customers complained of damage when they were listening to their Ipod with "non-Mac headphones" which would slip out of the socket and cause it to drop to the floor and become damaged while running. So their suggestion was to use only the crappy Mac headphones (or, perhaps pay for a very expensive higher-end Apple model of headphones?? If they're not there, I wouldn't be at all suprised at this).
My friend's mini works fine with the Apple headphones now, but she really wishes she could use her better-sounding Sony headphones.
The guy at the store said there have been tons of complaints about this, and he hopes Apple will change their next model. |

Good thing they had a plan to deal with the crowds and stuck with it, huh. |

Oh, I thought it was the hard disk problem. It sucks she can't use the Sony ones, but thanks for the heads up, because the Apple headphones are freaking expensive. You have to buy the remote with them and they are like 45,000 won or something. I found a store in Yongsan, an Apple store that sells them for 25,000. |

Yeah, they said the sensor near the top was shutting off the hard drive because of the disconnection from the headphones. Non-Apple headphones don't have the correct connection to keep this from happening, apparently?
I have seen nicer headphones with metal connection plates on them. I wonder if those would work?
I have a feeling that Apple won't be selling many mini-Ipods. Maybe they will totally get rid of them? Full I-pods will be a different deal, given the high storage capacity and ability to use them as another hard drive. |

You can use any headphones you like with the nano. The Apple ones that came with mine are still unopened. |

If they drop the prices ALOT...I think people will buy them up. They are still pretty cool looking and it plays music. Honestly, I think the shuffle is what is dead. I had one and I wasn't impressed with it at all. It was a crappy little player that I felt was expendable.
