Wow, They really need to move those weekend days to a Monday system like USA does. |

Chuseok is on a Friday next year, so Thursday will be a holiday as well. Its not 5 days, but at least its better than this year! There is also a public holiday on the Tuesday before Chuseok, so there'll only be 2 days of classes that week. |

the info I got from another site was totally different from that one!
Is Buddha's birthday still a holiday? Does anyone have the info for July onwards? |

Yeah, that list is wrong.
Tree/Arbour Day and Constitution Day won't a public holidays anymore as of next year.
Buddha's birthday isn't a holiday in Korea; hasn't been since the Joseon dynasty and their anti-buddhist purges. Jesus Christ's birthday is a public holiday though, which tells you which is the ruling religion in Korea.

Off the top of my head, no I don't have a link.
As I understand it, the whole system of public holidays is in flux right now, with the Korean government in the process of rearranging them, dropping some and possible adding others.

The government has already decided to exclude Arbor Day on April 5 and Constitution Day on July 17 from the list of national holidays starting from July. Major companies have implemented or scheduled to introduce the shorter workweek system this year.

The organizations proposed that the government exclude National Foundation Day on Oct. 3 from the list of state holidays from this year. It also urged the government to take away the holiday status of Children's Day on May 5 and Memorial Day on June 6 from 2012, when the five-day workweek system will affect both large and small companies.

According to my cell phone anyway, looks like Choo-suhk is October 5th(Th), 6th, and 7th in 2006. Not sure if that's correct though. The above article(in Jack's posting) mentions October 3rd being proposed to be taken off as a holiday from this year. Does that mean we no longer have that long weekend coming up? I don't believe so. Seems like us foreigners are just getting a stinkin' deal these days. If the hakwons aren't trying to get us to work Saturdays, then the damned gov't won't allow us to enjoy a couple of red-letter days. EH-E-SHI |

Wow, I'm surprised its this difficult to find out when the 2006 national holidays are! You'd think they'd be standardized, and all set up from now 'til eternity. I guess not!
My parents are trying to plan a trip to Asia.. They're going to do 3 weeks in Thailand and 1 week in Seoul to visit yours truly. They have to book flights and such sooner than later, and so we're trying to find out what dates I will be available to hang out. They're coming in February... Feb isn't looking good for days off, is it...? |

If possible(and if they're dead set on only February), get them to come to Seoul first. If they arrive on Friday, January 27th, at least you should have four days to spend with them over Chinese/Korean New Year's - it falls on the 30th of January next year and you should have the 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st off from your workplace. |
