Hey Guys,

I'm a bit poor at the moment, and I have about 50 pounds in bek and o-bek wons lying around. Is there anywhere in Korea where I can cash them in for bills? A coin-star equivalent? Maybe the bank? How much of a percentage would they take?

Thanx

Andy

Just take them to any bank. Some banks are supposed to only change them on specific days (Nonghyup, anyway, had this policy for a while) but if you rattle your buckets of coins loudly enough and feign ignorance of Korean, and repeat yourself in English several times, they should get to you before long.

(I always pretended I didn't understand when they said they couldn't do it, and after deciding they didn't want to try to explain themselves in English, they just sighed and took the coins.) Twisted Evil

my former bank (KB) has two separate machines - one you can operate yourself if you speak enough korean or the staff are friendly enough... it's like an ATM, you put in your card, dump your change in a tray and it counts it and debits your account.

once tho i came in with about 300 bucks in coins. they took it into the back and rolled it for me. it was cool, almost like getting free money.

Ma'am, not sir. Confused

Razz

At ease. I don't believe they charge you--seems to me I've always gotten exactly whatever I put in, down to the last ship won. But are you sure you don't want to fly down here and buy me some roses with all that extra change? We can order in, drink some champagne, have one last, crazy night together. Cool

I think uberscheisse means "...credits your account.", not "...debits...". Very Happy

Large banks have a machine that will take mixed coins. Smaller branches need you to pre-sort them.
