I'm considering further studies and amongst my possible options is studying for the Masters in TESL (via distance learning).
Is it worth it in the long run? |

If you're doing this sorta gig long run, I can't see how you wouldn't want to do one. |

Gee, a W6,000,000 to W20,000,000 experience that might get you an extra W100,000-200,000 a month if you are really lucky.
Wow. Do I sound bitter?
Depends if you can write and want to publish.
Depends what you want it for and how useful/good/well-known your BA is.
Plenty of people making lots of money without them.
Might not really change your life, might get you out of Korea. Your call. |

If you are really wanting to be involved in education for the long haul, why not consider doing a Masters in Education rather than a Masters in TESL which obviously limits your teaching options as a professional. A degree in Education with specialization or concentration in different areas widens your ability to work as an educator in a wide range of teaching positions besides teaching English as a second or foreign language. As far as distance education is concerned, the people who are going to complain to you that it is not worthwhile are those who have very limited if any true experience or understanding of online distance learning. They have probably taken one of the short course variety training modules that cannot be used as a proper guide to what is actually involved in a full fledged academic Graduate Program in an online format. They also usually support the need for brick and mortar education because they are defending the expense of many thousands of dollars they personally spent to get their degree. If you want some information about some good programs that are available, send me a
