|
|
We signed a contract with a school, did a Japan visa run. three weeks later the director informed us that he was transferring the school to a friend. We signed the same contract with the new director under the same school name. A few weeks later the new director informed us that the school's name would be changed (big franchise) Is our visa still valid?
We have no idea if these changes have been reported to immigration(despite asking) We have been told that due to a fire exit or some rubbish like that, the school name according to the education centre blah blah is still registered as the old school name (despite the new name appearing on every document, letter and exterior of the bulding) even the parents have been told of the change.
Does anyone have any answers or advice on this?? |

My only advice is this....GO TO IMMIGRATION AND ASK THEM!!! Get off your behind and stop logging on to Dave's to ask us amateurs. Go to the source and get the real answer. Immigration is the only stop you should make for good advice.

Heck, you can ask someone there and even their information is not always correct. |

Your new employers must go to immigration with you and your passport to transfer your E-2 work visa into their name. They only have a certain amount of time to do this after purchasing the school or they face a fine.
Make sure this gets done or you'll have nasty gray areas between your contract and who must honour it, for example: paying severence etc.
A lot of school owners have little or no idea about this so call immigration if you have to. |

The changes must be reported to Immigration. I worked for a Public School last year, and the prinicpals changed the day I started. The school "assumed" (never checked with immigration) that the change did not have to be reported. WRONG. They were fined 600,000 won for this honest mistake.

| Thanks for the advice everyone. It helps to know your not just being 'unreasonable' and fellow teachers understand the predicament. We've said our piece to the Director and he's told us he needs a week to think about it! |
