Now that Firefox has become the first viable contender to Microsoft Internet Explorer in years, its popularity has brought with it some unwanted attention. Last week's premature disclosure of a zero-day Firefox exploit came a few weeks after a zero-day exploit for Internet Explorer appeared on the Internet. Firefox not only has more vulnerabilities per month than Internet Explorer, but it is now surpassing Internet Explorer for the number of exploits available for public download in recent months.

| I've never had problems with firefox. I haven't had a virus or coolweb attack since I started using it when the IE warning came out. I use the same security as I did with IE. I'm not going back. |

They got a long way to fall before they catch up with IE. The fact Symantic notices it suggests that using their or some other antivirus is sufficient at this time. The wintel conspiracy is just fighting back 
Seriously, I haven't changed any of my security and I've never had a virus or hijacking with Firefox. With IE it had become routine. |

Me too !!!
Although I must admit that I now have an ethernet router with a firewall in addition to the Nortons Anti Virus software on my computer. |

I have Opera now, IE and Firefox. I trust IE about as far as I can toss Bill Gates and a Semi. Opera is smooth and much nicer than IE. Firefox is faster loading for me. If Opera is as safe as Firefox then I'm sold. Too bad free IE has stiffled competition. Opera is a great example of an alternative.
MS operating system should be stripped down and sold without freebies. Buyers should have choices for their hard earned money when buying a machine. Software makers should give away stripped down versions of their product.
It would be nice if OS makers did that. |

I just came across my first non-Opera friendly page. I have to use this page (it's a Yahoo! page) but when I try to access it with Opera it directs to a page that has only 2 options- IE upgrade or Netscape upgrade links.
With Firefox I can access it no problem.
Anyone know if there's a way for Opera to 'fool' a page into believing it's IE? |

Now I've been playing with Opera for about as long as you have, so forgive me if I'm wrong. I think if you try tools / quick preferences / identify as internet explorer. From what I've read that should do the trick, although you may have to reload the page. |

| Good call, except that I just checked my preferences and discovered I had already set it to 'identify as IE'. I guess i'll try the other 2 options and see what happens. |
