found this on the official APEC website Smile

- When having a meal with the elderly, wait for the elders to hold their spoon first.
- Do not hold the spoon and chopsticks together in one hand. When using chopsticks, the spoon is rested on the table. Spoon and chopsticks are not rested on any bowl or dish. Do not hold the rice bowl or soup bowl in the hand.
- At first, taste soup or kimchi juice, and then try rice or other dishes. Use spoon for rice and foods with liquid such as kimchi, stew, or soup; use chopsticks for other foods.
- Do not make noises while eating and using spoon or chopsticks.
- Do not rummage rice or side dishes with spoon, and do not pick out what you don't like or shake off seasonings.

Actually I have been doing things wrong, because I usually "rummage rice or side dishes with spoon" and then I "shake off seasonings".

Do you really think APEC diplomats really give 2 tosses about their table manners..

Their goals will be two fold.....
1)To secure as many economic partnerships and deals with partner countries as possible...APEC summits are basically high-level trade shows where a lot of deals get done..

2) to get to the room salon as many times as possible(especially the Asian delegates)...I can assure you that the hosts will be trying to get them in a good frame of mind to secure the deals...no better way to do it than through this method..

Maybe the hosts should just serve real food instead of the inedible weeds and dogmuck that passes for it here.

i've been taught all of the above by my parents regarding Korean table manners so i'd have to say at least in my experience, its pretty accurate
just gotta add, 'dont slurp your noodles or soup' that they've told me in addition to above
