Here's a picture of God. Why don't you ask Him? (Yes, it's a Him - the source of all beauty, power, knowledge, etc.)

I think we're getting almost as many meta-religious-threads as religious-threads. Can you prove to me that all these alleged religion threads actually exist? |

If by "meta-religion" you're lumping in all kinds of man-made concoctions along with authentic ancient religious systems pre-dating the Judeo-Christian model - what's the point? Real religion is "God-made" not manufactured by imperfect humans. Interfaith understanding and tolerance should be promoted, but the criteria for determining what is real religion and what is speculative nonsense should be understood. Real religion promotes the idea of loving the Supreme Lord (known by many different names) is based on authentic scriptures based on the word of God (essentially the same message - differing in details to reach different types of people...) and has qualified spiritual leaders and saints within that tradition... |

But where do we draw the line as to where to begin. There are venus statues dating from the early paleolithic. We coul dsuggest that that is the oldest religion and follow with that. That actually sounds pretty good, a religious cult based on the premise of creation.
Thing is, that still isn't the oldest. Going back further we find that the neanderthals had religious thought as well. Burying their dead with flowers, trinkets and the like. I know, I know you were getting at religions after the start of history. Well, why not the Egyptian relgion, or Celtic, or Roman, or (my favourite) the Aztec. I think it would be interesting to see a temple of the flayed god.
A note to all those thinking that I'm being snarky and sarcastic- I'm not. I seriously think we should look as far back as possible if we want a religion with as little "human influence" as posssible. |

a very revealing statement. the problem with religions is they label humans as imperfect. it is systemetised demeaningment (is that a word) and guilt..
all religion is man-made. |

Materially conditioned human beings all have the following defects:
1. certain to make mistakes
2. subject to fall into illusion
3. imperfect senses
4. tendency to cheat
Liberated souls, not under the jurisdiction of the material modes of nature (ignorance, passion and goodness) are free from these defects and can deliver perfect knowledge from the spiritual world...

Nope. I was talking about meta-religious-threads, as in "Threads about Threads about Religion." |

Sorry for misunderstanding. When I saw "meta-religion" I wasn't sure what it meant so I googled it, and all I came up with was a list of cults and witchcraft and stuff. "Hare Krishnas" used to routinely get lumped in with cults, so I thought you possibly were referring to my posts showing up on many threads. (OK - I'm a little paranoid - I haven't done any chanting yet this morning...) |
