Did you guys see the news last night? There was a wild boar that ventured into Seoul to forage for food. They traced the path he took, and man, did he ever cover some territory! He even swam across the Han River with a police boat in tow! Even went into a bar and knocked over some chairs! Poor guy, though- some special marksmen were called in to take him down, and some attack dogs were sicced on him. I wish they would've just tranquilzed him, but apparently the police considered him to be a menance to society, so they took him down.

Man, he gave the cops a run for his money! I was cheering that big pig on all the way!!

It is terrible to hear this. It sounds as if the police weren't trained to handle situations like this and didn't know the right people to contact for assistance.

You should see the build-up of men and arms when one of them makes it up to the mountainous security area behind the Blue House. Talk about your assymetrical balance of forces. Looks like a Rambo movie set. You'd think they were chasing an elite NK hit squad (or, these days, a couple of drunk 18-yr-old American GIs). No, they don't tend to use tranquilisers. And I don't expect they'd even let the "right" people or agencies -- those prepared, trained and equipped to deal with these situations -- anywhere near the action. Or the TV cameras.

That's too bad... No wonder I never see any wildlife here, apart from the magpies and pigeons. Has anybody ever seen a squirrel here?

I see squirrels behind the temple at Naksongdae every time I go there. They're delicious with cajun seasoning.

This repeated occurance of wildlife running rampant through the streets of Seoul is hilarious. Anyone remember the elephants? A bit 'Jumanji' there these days, guys? Should I work on my fitness before I return?

Last week while tramping through a swamp somewhere in rural korea i was delighted to see a Korean water deer run across my path. It was really great!



Other than that, I have seen 2 types of squirrel (red and Korean), the siberian chipmunk,a leopard cat, 2 finless porpoises, domesticated eastern roe deer 9on antler farms), and a manchurian weasel in 3 years of roaming the last remaining wilds of Korea. But strangely, no mice or rats.

there are actually quite a lot of deer here, but they're small compared to what we see back home. I ran over and killed one about 2 months ago. Wanted to bring it home to make steaks, but couldn't think of a good place to butcher it. Still have some hair stuck in the headlight.

Lots of pheasant too, and wild boar. You folks need to get out of the city.
