I preferably like to teach beginners and basic-level students because they don't develop the same nasty habits that intermediate students make when they speak.

Also, which level do you feel comfortable teaching?

(NOTE- I'm not talking about "which age group", because I know many of us teach children Wink )

PS- I am aware that age IS a factor in the ability level, but I want to know what level students do you like to teach based on the age of the students you are teaching now.

I like teaching beginners....kindergarten is my favorite. Would love it if my school went full-time kindergarten.

that is my worst nightmare.

I prefer intermediate because they can hold a conversation, but dont' think they know it all like advanced students.

I also enjoy beginners, because they are not as jaded as some intermediate students and will do almost any style of activity.

I enjoy two different groups.

Adult false beginners are an absolute laugh riot in my book. I could teach them 10 hours a day without getting tired. They will do anything you ask and progress so fast it makes your head spin.

With true beginners I prefer the low intermediate level. I don't enjoy the absolute beginner because they need more grammar than I can explain with body language.

My worst nightmare, too.

In terms of age I prefer working with high school. My first-grade high school students are the most fun, but no worries in terms of keeping things orderly.

In terms of level, I much prefer more advanced. The problem with high school, of course, is that you have some more advanced ones and some who haven't been keeping up with the programme for years.

I like teaching grades 3,4,5 because they are usually excited to learn, try hard and are a lot of fun(none of the attitude that starts to manifest in the latter half of grade 6 and continues on through middle school)

I also like teaching college level as well as adults because the lessons can be more complex and they also put forth more effort and have more fun.(at least in my experience)

I like ages 8-13, around there.

The little eight year olds are a gas. They're so excited about everything and plug into the game of class, get really serious about competing with the other team and winning the extra candy. Take a lot of energy but they're usually at the start of the day, 3pm, when you're fresh.

The 10/11 year olds are great, too. They're hearts are on their sleeve and they're going for the gold trying to get their team to win. The girls are becoming pro students here, and the boys respond out of the need to win. They need some variety in their feed here, more than the usual book.

The 13 year olds are gangly and half-kids, half teenagers. They're so cute. Kind of geeky and gangly. Heart still on their sleeves.

The 15 year olds cocoon themselves in class. It's obvious Mom's behind them being there, not them. So they emerge from time to time to say hello but hang in until the bell rings and it's time to go home. Unless there's something special going on. Their lives are so crammed with study it's crazy.

I like prepping, like for a month, some highschooler one-on-one before they head off to Australia or America for a year to live and study English. They are heading out to sea and they know it. So we look at info about Adelaide, Australia, or wherever they're going. I get to learn about these places in the bargain.

Overall I'd say my favourite is ten, but they have to be fed. They're good students, especially the girls, and want more than the book.
