Last weeks lesson was a HUGE hit with my students. In groups of 4 they chose 1 person who stayed sitting down and wrote, with the other 3 running around to the 6 sentences of a story and memorising them and coming back to their groups and saying the words to the scribe.
The kids loved being able to leave the classroom (even tho it was just outside) and now I'm looking for more games which appeal to kinsthetic learners. I'm thinking a treasure hunt but 40kids running around school is a bit excessive.
Thanks! |

Always a good idea. Unfortunately, most of my kids have to climb over or under their desks to get out of them... |

Other variants to try:
- set up pairs, have them do essentially the same but seeking specific information. Follow up with Q and A, either T -> S or S -> S.
- do the same but looking for:
- theme
- topic sentence
- words (meaning/spelling)
Etc., etc. Just use your imagination.
Glad to see we aren't all just doing repetition drills. |

Yeah I'm gonna modify it with a colonising the new world feel, one person writes 2 explore, (find out what foods are edible, do they have side effects, where is the nearest village, what do they have to trade etc. etc.) and the final person reports their findings to me. But its SO similar to my last game, I think u could feasibly only do this sort of thing once or twice a term.
So neone got other games involving movement? I thought a treasure hunt might work but its a bit manic with 45 kids and i'd have to right a different set of clues for each group!! |

The whole games with movement thing strikes a dischord with my general love of orderliness, but I think I'll try the story / colonists idea. Since all my middle school lessons for next week got cancelled I'll have lots of time to think about it.
I've seen singing with actions work, not that that's my cup of tea exactly. |
