OK, Ive been wondering. If F2s can work any job now, what is to stop a highschool drop out from marrying a K-girl and teaching in a hogwan, high school or Uni (Other than no K-Girl would marry him) ? I find it an interesting question now with the crackdown on E2s and fake degrees. Why does immigratinon rightfully crack down on the E2s and David Kang, yet seem to open another possable route for troublemakers to enter Korea? Is there some local regulations that require hogwon teachers to have graduated uni?

Ideas? How would you regulate it?

Maybe it's to be regulated by the Ministry of Education? Just a guess. If you're working as an English teacher, I believe you still have to register your credentials with the Ministry of Education.

BTW - I can't imagine a sudden rush of people marrying Koreans simply because they can get an F2 visa... Laughing

There are more non-western folk married to Koreans than westerners. These F2 changes are not just about western English teachers, it's about giving a Filipino or Vietnamese wife/husband of a Korean national the opportunity to do any kind of work in the country without having to go through immigration.

The law also recently changed so that foreign women married to Korean men can stay in Korea after divorce regardless of who gets custody of the children. Believe me - that law wasn't put in place to protect us white foreign chicks, it's there to protect women (from China, Vietnam, The Philippines etc) who have married Korean men, from being forced out of the country and away from their kids after divorce as has happened in the past.

I think WB is right on the money with this:

But I guess instead of working KFC back home... they can now do it here! Laughing

unfortunately, the EFL industry is still not open to non-native speakers...
well at least with the new F2, it will be easier for them/us to work at the factories! Sad

Do you know why that is?

Does anyone know if the Ministry of Education* requires a university degree to teach? Korean students can legally tutor privately and they don't have degrees...

* Disclaimer - I don't even know if the Ministry of Ed are regulating F2 visa teaching folk!

Yes, I know that we have to show diplomas as well as ARCs and passport copies to get approval for foreign teachers with the Ministry of Education.

All you need to tutor is a highschool diploma; however, one needs to have earned at least a bachelors degree to teach at a hagwon. If you know Korean university students who work at a hagwon, they are doing so illegally.

I don't know any Korean university students working illegally at hagwons... I was just trying to make a comparison between F2 visa holders and a Korean national registering with the Ministry of Ed. I know that Korean nationals don't need a university degree to tutor (hence my student comment), just wondering if it's the same for F2 visa holders? Hope that makes my waffle a bit clearer Smile

I'm presuming that the requirements for hagwon/uni/public school teacher are still the same? Must be a native English speaker (or had schooling in an English speaking country)?

Anyway, I think this means that the OPs idea that any old Joe or Jane without a degree can marry a Korean national, get an F2 visa and teach is not valid.

So, will all F2s that want to teach English have to do paperwork through the Ministry of Education?
