Hey guys, i have a couple questions and although they may sound stupid i want the answers becasue it always seems like the questions u were too afraid to ask were the ones that come back to haunt u.
1) i am from canada which means i DO NOT need a visa to enter South Korea right?
2)in order to get a visa to teach english u need to have a contract signed and u need to show them the document as proof b4 they issue u the teaching visa. WEll wut if i was planning on going over there and then looking for an english teaching job? how do i go about getting my teaching visa without having to leave the country to get one? do u think illegal teaching is completly out of the question?> |

Canadians get an automatic 6 month tourist visa, but you may need a ticket showing that you're planning to leave Korea sometime within that 6 months.
If you find a job here, there's about a 99% chance that you'll have to leave the country to get the work visa. All that means though is that your school will send you to Japan for a couple of days so you can visit the consulate there. |

And by the way you need a 'real' degree with sealed transcripts from your university. You also need to pass a spelling and grammar test |

will it be harder to get the school to pay to send me to japan if i am only planning on teaching for a few months? i am going to australia for teachers college but planned on spending 2 months in korea teaching english. i cant see a school paying to get my visa if i will only be teaching 2 months.
wut about private tutoring.. i assume i wouldnt need anythign for that because it would be cash money with a family?? |

it's not really worth your while to come if you're only doing it for two months. Schools write in big penalty clauses for breaking contracts especiallly in the first 6 months.
Illegal teaching might work, if you're not worried about getting deported. Immigration is cracking down hard lately and it's a real risk. |

And I thought I was alone in recommending this. |

well when i look on some websites they offer like one month jobs.. i wouldnt sign a year contract only to break it in 2 months. i would be up front and look for a job that was a month or two long. is there opportunity for private tutoring?? |

Only illegally, in which case you would be risking fines and deportation.
It's not worth it in my opinion for only 2 months work.
The people who can legally work at those one month jobs are people who have Korean citizenship or have a Korean spouse.
The rest of us are kind of SOL.
I'm not sure about all the different classifications of visas and the coresponding rules, but I do know that on a tourist card..........you are not allowed to teach.
Perhaps another country would better serve your purposes? |

You can't get an E2 for one or two months unless it's a camp job, and there aren't any of those right now. If you come you'd have to teach illegally. If you don't know anyone, you'll have trouble finding privates.
What you could do is work for a hogwan that wants to send you on a visa run at some time in the unspecified future, and then go to Oz instead of Japan at the specified time. |
