I've been hearing recently that there is a Walmart in Seoul somewhere. I was not too shocked to hear this (mother of all bigbox stores). Does anyone know if and where the Walmart is in Seoul? Can you get some good deals on anything? what things can you get there?

Any info would be appreciated!

It won;t be the same walmart you would find in North America(not that i know -I'm Australian) as the ones i have been to here are pretty similar to Homeplus and E mart - just Korean supermarket/ variety chains..

they do have a couple of hidden goodies but don't expect it to be in any way similar to what you find back home

Kangnam Wal-Mart has pretty much what your average e-mart would have. It's not worth a trip unless you live close.

Check out Costco instead. They've got some great stuff there.

COSTCO Yangpyung
COSTCO Yangjae
COSTCO Sangbong
It's not so much of a customer-friendly description, but their Korean version of branch locator isn't any better.

I would advise taking a taxi if you're going to the Yangjae Costco. Even if you get off at the Yangjae station, it's apparently quite a hike (doesn't look like it on the map, though.)

Wal-Mart is at Seollung Station - a few blocks away. There's no significant landmark nearby - it's nestled among apartment buildings. Just print the map and you should be able to figure out the spatial relationship once you're there.

Definitely take a cab from Yangjae Station if you're going to Costco, because the maps on the Costco site are screwed. The one at Sangbong is a five minute stroll from Sangbong stn, exit 1 though.( Double check the exit)

As for the issue of English and the Walmart site- There's an English option for it, just look at the top right.

The wal-mart in Gangnam is horrible. It's dingy, prices aren't any better than lottemart/carrefour/home plus. Wal-mart Korea is a huge embarressment. Koreans pretty much saw that the future were wal-mart like stores and blanketed Korea in emart/lottemart/homeplus stores before wal-mart even got here. Wal-mart pretty much offers exactly what everyone else offers at prices that are really no better than any place else. If you lived next to the walmart, you could make a case for shopping there but, aside from satisfying your own curiosity that the Seoul wal-mart does indeed suck, there's little reason to visit the place twice.

Really, aside from member's only Costco, the best place to find a selection of stuff from back home is Carrefour.
