College Education Linked to Divorce
The more educated the couple, the more likely they are to divorce, court statistics suggest. Couples who have been together for over a decade appear most prone to experience marriage breakdown.

well duh...its true...not that im against it (as a very edumacated chick)...

but when a lady can support herself she aint gonna be in an unhappy marriage with some jerk for fear of living hand to mouth

...OR when a lady can support herself she may let her righteous kuntiness come out and play (FIGURATIVELY FOLKS!), since if the dude wants a divorce she has a degree, a job AND alimony.

im not endorsing or conding anything, but facts and logic speak for themselves. when fear of abandonment and poverty is gone, people get bolder.

i am also edumacated enough to know that working sucks...and that hanging out, waking up late, playing with my kids, and cooking up all sorts of wacky recipes wouldnt be quite as bad and oppressive as its been cracked up to be...

what person, if given the choice, wouldnt wanna just hang out with your little kids and cook and chill, go for walks...if i get bored...i can get a hobby, go to the gym...it sounds great...

...i know i know...its almost sacrilige for a woman to say this...but it sounds like a sweet ass deal to me. if im going to be working hard id rather make my husband and babies habby than some dork with a tie on breathing down my neck for the good of some nameless company i dont give a sh*t about...

maybe i am just slightly unambitious...or perhaps i have seen the light. .....Just look at Kevin Federline...doubtful he feels ashamed and oppresed. More like...well rested.

Women aspire to be housewives without any of the housework
Instead they want to play the "role" of housewife with a little help from, for instance, a nanny, and someone who does the ironing. And unlike Kylie Minogue, they don't want to do any dusting either.
Marian Salzman, chief strategic officer of Euro RSCG Worldwide, the world's fifth largest advertising agency, research suggested that the motivation to spend more time at home was "self-centred" for some women. "There are many women who choose to stay home out of concern for their children's quality of life," she said. "But there are plenty of others who are paying lip service to being the 2004 version of the perfect mum. In reality they are domestic divas who want the flawless kids, courtesy of the nanny; a spotless home, thanks to a cleaning service; and a reputation for being a fabulously put-together homemaker.

actually Jared, I'd love to be your house husband. . .as Chimpum points out, these days it doesn't sound like such a bad deal. . . although I'm sure the constant attention your kid demands would be bothersome after awhile, but hey that's why we have schools and kindergartens. . .sit at home watching the Gilmore Girls, not worrying about cooking dinner for someone who eats out because of her work, who gives me money every week for fun stuff and 'groceries'.. . . sounds fantastic. Sign me up.

You know...you guys are right. Being a house "wife" is not such a bad deal nowadays. I mean, it's not like you are doing the backbreaking labor such as back in the day. You've got vacuum cleaners, microwaves, washing machines...etc. I'd MUCH rather be a housewife in Korea than teaching English....in a hell-yeah heartbeat. But the reality is that I make more than my husband, so we have a reversal-role situation going on here. I have to be the one responsible for all our income, especially now that I live in the States and hubby will be coming down to join me and probably won't be able to get a job until his English improves. I have been in the situation where I was the only "breadwinner" and I must agree that whoever stays home all day (whether the husband or wife) SHOULD be responsible for maintaining/cleaning the house...not all of it, but the majority. It's damn tough to work all day...and if you're married and don't have kids....then hell yeah, the person staying home should do ALL the cleaning and let the person working have a break, dammit!!

Grunt....I think I'm ready for my good ol' football game and beer now. Hubby...go get me my kimchi! Wink (just joking)

Hmm...do you have kids?

1. Kids don't sleep in.
2. Ever try to cook with a 2 or 3 year old around.
3. Ohhh go to the gym. What? put the kid in your locker?
4. Ever grocery shop with a 2 year or a 3 year old or even a five year old.
5. Man, cleaning and laundry where do I sign up!
6. Lets hope your husband is generous otherwise you will be trying to stretch that budget and make 1 pound of hamburger feed everybody for two days. And lets hope he doesn't mind you shopping and you don't have to justify every single purchase.
7. Okay lets go for a walk. Get the stroller out, make sure baby or kids are dressed properly for the weather. Take some spare diapers. Pack a diaper bag. Get yourself ready and off you go. Babies are not like dogs. They require maintenence.
8. Heck just go to the movies except you can't because you find a babysitter and trust me people with crying babies and fussy children in movie theatres are not appreciated.
9. What the heck just rent a DVD and watch at home... except ...mommy I'm thirsty, mommy I'm hungry, mommy I think I will just cry for no reason.

Life of riley eh?

EASY? FUN? WHAT PLANET DID YOU GROW UP ON...NEWPORT OR NANTUCKET FILLED WITH NANNIES AND PLAYDATES.

...i know i know...its almost sacrilige for a woman to say this...but it sounds like a sweet ass deal to me. if im going to be working hard id rather make my husband and babies habby than some dork with a tie on breathing down my neck for the good of some nameless company i dont give a sh*t about...

I have a great deal of respect for mothers. It is hard work. My mom raised 8 of us and did a good job. But is it fun, relaxing and a day at the beach...oh hell no. Kids are work. It is stressful and when hubby gets home. Guess what? He isn't going to want to sit around and talk about your day. You will have to live alot of your time knowing the only conversation you might have for days is with someone under the age of 10. Yeah a real piece of cake.

If I were not gay, I think the ticket would be to be a 'house husband' and just stay home/play with the girlfriends all day. I mean, hey, the right man can suuuuure be a playboy here. There's no denying it!

that was then, this is now. Most people don't have families of this size anymore, and all the modern conveniences make the old modern conveniences look like real hard work. Mothers today DO have it way easier, what with fewer children, a more established social support network (not just family, but things like, well, hakwans), and all the labour saving devices. Yes, I have a great deal of respect for women of the previous generations, who suffered greatly to make our lives healthy and fine. But many young women today don't have a clue and expect the world to be handed to them on a platter because they are women.

Anyway, I suppose we should all enjoy time with our children now before the coming of the state sponsored birth program when children will simply be taken away to be indoctrinated properly.

Cheers (and still wanting to be your house husband)

SM

Actually, RR, marriage is the leading cause of miserable relationships and divorce.

word steroid, and others.

although it may be hard work...my mom did it and it was hard work too...sure...im saying id rather put in the effort for my family than to work hard filing or going to boring meetings. esl is not a dream job for me...and it is NOT backbreaking labor...unless there are a huge amount of pets, children, or your hubby is obsessive compulsive.
