I'm seriously considering (if I can find out if it would work) ordering a package like Bell Vu express which my parents already have and having them ship it over here. Obviously I'd have to find someone who has the know how (cause I don't ) to install the dish and receiver, but after doing that I wonder if it would actually work? I would happily sign up for the NHL center ice package as I really want to see the NHL games.
I know my parents got a second receiver from my uncle who lives Alberta and quietly had it installed and has been working fine. I just wonder if I got the same thing sent over here if it would work. Of course I know they aren't supposed to go out of N.A. but if they did would they work? |

My guess is that it wouldn't work. Here's why:
Bell uses satellites that are in geosynchronous or geostationary orbit. What that essentially means is that they remain in view of the ground stations throughout the entire day. If one could see a satellite in geostationary orbit, it would appear to hover at the same point in the sky, i.e., not exhibit diurnal motion, while one would see the Sun, Moon, and stars traverse the heavens behind it.
A better option would be to look into one of the services out of Thailand or elsewhere in Southeast Asis. Because of Korea's latitudinal position you might be able to receive a signal from their satellites.
Cheers,

Well thanks for your advice. From what you said that sounds logical so therefore I guess that's a no-go. The satellite service here in Korea that I've seen literally sucks so I'll have to look elsewhere. I've tried to find some torrent sites for hockey but no such luck. Two years ago they had they Stanley cup playoffs for download but not regular season games. |

Just keep searching for torrent sites. I have a feeling that once the season starts to heat up there will be some torrent releasers. I'll keep my eyes open too and if I come across any sites that do hockey I'll send them your way. |

They'll be showing the games at Rocky Mountain in Itaewon. If you can't go there maybe you can ask them what service they have and copy that. |

Ok I appreciate everyone's help. I in turn will message back if I find any torrent sites with games. The Rocky Mountain place in Itaewon sounds like a good idea to check out, where exactly is it? Is it on the main strip with Nashvilles and the Hamilton hotel, etc.? |

I posted this before someone on this board a long time ago.
In the days of Beaver's Wings we thought about getting sports stations from back home and with a little looking around we discovered that, at that time, 700,000 won would get dedicated satellite dish for pretty much any single channel that you wanted. |

Ok so beaver, although a bit steep it's something I'd seriously consider. Any idea how/who I'd contact to get something setup like that? All I want is NHL, could care less about any other sports. |

Sorry, no -- guess I'm not much help. Some Korean site.
The best unit we found was made by a Korean company. It could pick up signals from all kinds of satellites and the critics, at that time, seemed to like it. Called the HQ (it was somewhere in , I think) but they told us that they didn't sell them in Korea.
But, I do recall that when I was looking into it that there were a number of websites that gave satellite information (which angle to put a dish on and whatnot) and other, shadier, sites which gave instructions for building decoders -- with a little research and a soldering iron you could get most anything.
If I find some time later I'll look into this a little more. |

Hey guys,
that last post about a 700,000 dollar satellite has really excited me. Please tell me where and how you went about getting it Beaver. You mentioned websites and I showed it to one of my korean coworkers but nothing. Please give me more info.
Thanks. |

I've tried for the past two weeks to register at streamtvnow and had NO luck as they keep saying they aren't accepting any new members. Really sucks as I would love to try it out! |

Amazingly this morning I actually got to register at streamnow so I'll cross my fingers that everything will work. I will pay the 3 month subscription and hopefully be able to see some hockey games! Alternatively everyone I just found another site that posts games (after the fact) using Bittorrent:
http://s13.invisionfree.com/Center_Ice_Forums/index.php?
Registration is free, but obviously if you download games please maintain at least a 1:1 ratio. Nobody likes hit and runners!
Edited: I realized I didn't put the whole website address down correctly, it should work now. |
