There was a thread on another forum about this topic although, I didn't get the details. Has anyone been able to get a credit card here in Korea?
My Korean supervisor said it was really tough to get. If anyone did get one, where did you get it and how long was the process?
Thanks

If you're legal, it's as easy as spitting on the floor in a noraebahng. |

| You have to work in a university. Hogwan teachers aren't allowed. |

| I'm a hogwon teacher and I got the KEB Expat card...you just have to know how to present yourself....and it doesn't hurt having 100mill in the bank |

If you make 2 million/month, or more you will qualify for a credit card.
I was told this by Samsung Card, which I have, and KEB, which I'm thinking of getting.
As for uni vs hogwan, Samsung card said that hogwan teachers need to submit, one extra form; proof of employment, even though they will call your employer (uni and hogwan) |

I got a Samsung card just last month. The process was painless and relatively quick (20 minutes of filling out forms, a couple of phone calls and 2 week wait for the card to arrive).
But I'm not a hagwon teacher either. I never tried to get one while I was because I didn't think I'd be here long enough to need one. |

| These cards are really debt cards that give you a line of credit each month to be paid back in full at the end of each month or when ever you payment date is. A credit card like we have in the west isn't used by the locals. Odd really. |

not really, you can spread payments out over as much as 12 months, you have to tell them how many payments at the time of purchase. Some are no interest like I have at my gym, others the interest rate gets pretty high. Think my dental work is going to run around 18-20%. If you chose a shorter repayment, the interest is lower |

| I had one.. but when my wife and I got married, we decided we didn't need 3, so we now just share one with a nice limit. |

| I got a credit card through Nong-Hyup Bank last week. Went in on a Wednesday and filled in a form. The card was delivered 8 days later. No sweat. No hassle. Good for 5 years. (Unlike the &^($#^% cards at Kook-Min.) And I only have W3 million in that bank. |
