A while ago I saw a few topic chains about living and hanging out in Bundang, but I'd like to see what people down here are doing recently. After a while in Seoul, I have moved to this lovely, convenient and slightly soulless suburb and need the latest scoop. I have heard of Dublin Bar in Seohyun but nothing else really. I live in Yatap--can anyone advise?

There are a few spots in Bundang that are foreigner-free, if that's your thing.

Seohyeon seems to be it, though, as far as "night life" in Bundang. There's "Monkey Beach" near the McDonald's, and that's a popular place with whities. (Normally far more foreigners than Koreans there.)

Places like Sunae and Migeum (where I live) tend to be a little barren, but they are more modern and neon than Yatap or Imae. You can find good places to eat and drink, of course, but its good to know where you're going before you go there. Migeum and Sunae are good for people-watching, though, if that's your thing.

In basically the same boat - I am now managing a school in Mi-geum station area (same building as Outback Steakhouse), although still living in An-yang area.

I commute every day, but occasionally would go out on a Friday night (get a hotel somewhere around Mi-geum & just head back the next morning), but no clue where people hang out in Bun-dang, and NOT familiar with the area, except for immediately around Mi-geum Station.

Maybe Zyzyfer or someone else can give some info about Mi-geum, Suh-hyun, Su-nae or any of the other stations in that vicinity? Reedtea & I prefer western-style bars for drinks-mingling-dancing with other foreigners & friendly Korean types (younger professionals and/or college students).

Don't live there anymore, but can recommend a few places. Slim pickings, though.

As mentioned, Monkey Beach is a good, new dive. The alcohol there is unbelievably cheap, and whenever I'm in town to hang out, it's apparently on the list of places to stop. The prices there even make the cheap bars in Hongdae look expensive. Interesting atmosphere and a good mix of foreigners and Koreans from what I've seen. I think it's the only big foreigner watering hole right now, though. I've heard of a few other places getting some business, but it seems flitting at best, and I reckon you'll have to know someone to get in the scene. As for places to just hang your hat and drink in Seohyun, Posse is okay, but seems to either be dead or chaotic with their cocktail shows.

Sunae has a few top-notch places for this and that, but you'll be hard-pressed to bump into many foreigners there. PUB on the Royal Palace side of the station is one of the finest meat establishments I've ever graced in Korea. Munchen Square, though I believe the name changed to Munchen House or something like that, is right across from PUB, and has a few affordable microbrews available. Usually plenty of room for big crowds, too, though the atmosphere itself is a little stale. Hongcho Buldalk offers some damn good buldalk, and although I haven't tried too many buldalk shops, it's the best of the ones I have tried. Just keep in mind that you won't meet many foreigners here, but these places do offer quality food or drinks.

There's a couple of other places I'm familiar with, but they're either hard to find/not worth the trip, or just plain not worth it.

I live in the sunae station-Lotte dept. store area and I usually fnd myself going to Monkey Beach near Samsung plaza as well. 2,000 won Budweiser and draft OB! 1,000 won shots during the week! Nice mixture of whiteys and Koreans when I've been there.

The ubiquitous Wa-Bar is always an option I suppose. . .

I've heard of Munchen square, where is it? Suppossedly they brew some nice beers of their own there.

Basically any place you n' five of your friends decide to go in Bundang is a place to hang out. I mean, beer is everywhere and food is everywhere . . . and Seoul's an hour away. A few of the "big" places have been named----Wa Bar, Posse, Monkey Beach----but Bundang is about making your own fun, pretty much.

The Dublin, an Irish pub-style bar, near Monkey Beach, has sports events some nights and an open mic on Wednesdays. Beers are pricey there, so I'd recommend getting a few drinks at Monkey Beach or another nearby place before heading in. Joe, the bartender, is a really friendly man.

ok, so reedtea & I will try to beg off the light drinks tonight w/ my coworkers, before heading over to Monkey Beach.

Now, if anyone can provide easy visuals/line-of-sight directions, it would be appreciated. I'm getting something along the lines of subway station & McD's, but anything else useful?

Sorrry that I can't offer to bring out some cute K-workers to join us, but (fact of the matter) I really HAVE none at this job yet. And, in all likelihood, we'd call dibs, anyway!

Oh! If anyone can recc a nice, schwanky love hotel in the area, that would be appreciated as well - I know of one near Mi-geum, but a good one near wherever MB is would be preferable.

You see, I have a crew in Seoul, but was hoping to find out what kind of a scene there is down here for when I don't feel like making the trek in, or, more to the heart of the matter, the trek back out at 3AM.

I am getting the impression Dublin and this "Monkey Beach" (which puts bizarre images of mid-size primates, fur greasy and coiled with sunblock, in my demented head) are the basic hangouts. So will I find a pack of foreigners and foreigner-friendly locals there just about every weekend, or is it pretty hit-or-miss?
