Before coming to Korea I did some post-undergraduate degree coursework in my 2nd minor, just enough to get some prerequisites for a graduate program I was interested in. Anyway, a few days ago my Mom sent me a box full of my mail with my grades (they were delayed because I had a study abroad session they had to calculate also)... much to my dismay one of my more negative professors (a bitter, castrating female well into menopause who never married and failed as a researcher so she had to resort to teaching Psychology, in this case Human Sexuality) gave me a C when I should have had at least a B in her course... effectively lowering my GPA to a 2.34. I'm quite sure that that isn't going to look good on my application to a Master's program.
All that considered, I am thinking of extending my stay in Korea. The economy seems to be more promising than the U.S. at the very least.
I figure if I spend 5 years here I will have paid off my student debt and saved enough to get a technical degree in some medical field, like an EEG technician (which seems pretty interesting and still related to Neuropsych/ Psych) or something similar.
I'm wondering what some of the more long term expats here have done to make their stays comfortable and lucrative?
My current job teaching adults is dead easy and quite fun, but I have a split-shift which kinda sucks... it is supposed to rotate, 3 months on, 3 months off throughout the year, but there is no guarantee. I think 5 years of split-shifts would surely shorten my life expectancy.
Thanks for the help. |

Save money. Get your own place. Buy some real furniture instead of stealing crap out of the garbage. Act like you are living here and not in a university dorm. You can still save cash, but you will also live a lot better.
Jobs really shouldn't be giving you a place to live. That gives one an additional amount of stress they really don't need. By having your own place, you seperate your work life from your private life. |

absolutely. I only had company housing my first year (big apartment 32 pyoung) but I moved into a hasuk the next year rather than depend on my employer for housing. Life is much better that way.

don't worry about that. A lot of programs take a look at other factors as well. Get some experience in your field and then apply to your M.A. program. |

Most graduate schools consider two things..............GPA, and GRE scores. Hate to say it, but a 2.34 is something that is going to black ball you. My best friend had a 2.89 and he could never get accepted into any program. What was your major? If you are going into the social sciences, things look bleak. Education will be the same way. The education people will weed you out the second they see that! Best thing...........see if you can go back and retake some classes, get a solid 3.00, then the realm of education will open up!
and.........study for the GRE, that will have so much pull!
unless you want to go to law school, then study the LSAT. |

Youre surprised she gave you a C? |
